(Source: Impressions, Alliance)

The Strangling Sea - a seafaring adventure from Robin D. Laws for 13th Age - is sailing into stores courtesy of Pelgrane Press. (Source: Impressions)

The massive Dragon Age Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook from Green Ronin Publishing is now making store shelves strain. This tome combines all of the rules from the three boxed sets and updates the setting. (Source: Alliance)

It's a bit of a slow week with three Gen Con releases and a popular story game making their debuts on store shelves.

New releases at your FLGS

For Shadowrun (5th Edition), there's no business like Bloody Business. This is a campaign sourcebook from Catalyst Game Labs. (Source: Leisure Games)

Luther Arkwright: Roleplaying Across the Parallels is the newest RuneQuest (6th Edition) release from The Design Mechanism. This supplement is based on the graphic novels by Bryan Talbot and features contributions from our own Chad Bowser. (Source: Alliance)

Revealing some of the mysteries of Iron Kingdoms' Skorne, it's Iron Kingdoms Unleashed: Skorne Empire for Iron Kingdoms Full Metal Fantasy Roleplaying Game from Privateer Press. (Source: Leisure Games)

Primetime Adventures (Third Edition) from Dog-eared Designs is on store shelves... at least at Leisure Games. (Source: Leisure Games)

New PDF releases

D&D PDFs: Gamma World Game Master's Guide (3E), Cryptic Alliances & Unknown Enemies (3E), Player's Strategy Guide (4E), Dungeon #201 (4E), and Dragon (Issue 410 - Apr 2012) (4E).

(Note: Due to time constraints, I only cover the D&D PDFs and anything that I receive as a tip. Let us know about new PDFs you've seen in the comments. If you would like to cover PDFs, please let us know!)

Gen Con 2015 seemed to have many more RPG releases this year (completely anecdotal, please don't wager). The post-Gen Con deluge starts this week and will likely extend through the year.

So many games, so little time!

New releases at your FLGS

One of the giant Gen Con releases this year was no surprise. Star Wars: Force and Destiny Core Rulebook is being smuggled into stores by Chewie and Han (and Fantasy Flight Games) this week. The Star Wars: Force and Destiny Game Master's Kit will be there too. (Source: Alliance)

Not to be outdone, The Cypher System Rulebook debuted at Gen Con and is now arriving in stores from Monte Cook Games. (Source: Alliance)

Palladium Books also got on the scorecard with Robotech RPG: Expeditionary Force Marines Sourcebook One. (Source: Alliance)

After a successful Kickstarter, Sorcerers of Ur-Turuk from Arion Games is heading to stores. Sun, sand, and Magic! (Source: Leisure Games)

Also spotted at Gen Con were two Pathfinder System Compatible Products from Kobold Press: Halls of the Mountain King and Larger than Life. (Source: Leisure Games)

Mongoose Publishing hasn't been to Gen Con for several years, but that hasn't stopped them from releasing Liberty and Libreville: Corruption in the Core Worlds for 2300 AD (Mongoose). (Source: Leisure Games)

New PDF releases

D&D PDFs this week: Tomb of Horrors, Madness at Gardmore Abbey, Dungeon 200, and Dragon (Issue 409 - Mar 2012) all for Dungeons & Dragons (4th Edition).

(Note: Due to time constraints, I only cover the D&D PDFs and anything that I receive as a tip. If you would like to cover PDFs, please let us know!)

Smell that? That's the smell of Gen Con releases in the air. Mmmmm...

New releases at your FLGS

Goodman Games has a ridiculous number of Gen Con releases in 2015, but two are reaching stores simultaneously: Dungeon Crawl Classics #87: Against the Atomic Overlord and Dungeon Crawl Classics Lankhmar: Patrons of Lankhmar . (Source: Impressions)

Pelgrane Press' Gen Con releases are still a bit of a mystery with quite a few books going to the printer less than a month ago. At least Accretion Disk, a sourcebook for Ashen Stars will be there for sure. (Source: Impressions)

Cubicle 7 Entertainment is hitting stores and Gen Con at the same time with World War Cthulhu: The SOE Handbook. (Source: Leisure Games)

Worlds Numberless and Strange for The Strange from Monte Cook Games has also timed things perfectly. (Source: Leisure Games)

By now, it's a familiar tune. Releasing at Gen Con and reaching stores this week is Ghosts in the Black - a campaign supplement for Firefly Role-Playing Game from Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd., (Source: Leisure Games)

Paizo Publishing never stops but they do ramp up production during Con season. This week it's the much anticipated Occult Adventures, Pathfinder #95: Anvil of Fire, Pathfinder #96: Shadow of the Storm Tyrant, Hell Unleashed, and a host of accessories. (Source: Leisure Games)

And now for something completely different.. Gladiators of the Dominions isn't a Gen Con release! GRAmel's new book for Beasts & Barbarians (Savage Worlds) is - you guessed it - a gladiator supplement and also contains rules for GM-less gladiatorial league play. You know, now that I think of it, I wouldn't be surprised if Studio 2 had copies of it at Gen Con...

New PDF releases

Cornerstone RPG - Basic from Sigil Stone Publishing was released last week. It's a light, universal RPG. (Thanks to Karl Larsson for the tip!)

D&D PDFs this week: Enemies and Allies (3E), Hero Builder's Guidebook (3E), Dungeon 199 (4E), Dragon (Issue 407 - Jan 2012) (4E), and Dragon (Issue 408 - Feb 2012).

The Most Anticipated RPG Releases at Gen Con 2015

Hey you kids, get off my Avatar!
mbmbmbmbmb

So I'm kicking around the News office on Friday afternoon and spot Vestige, Teh Slipperboy, and Nemesis13 standing around the water cooler. "Hey boys!" I say, "What do you think all of those gamers above are rushing into the Exhibit Hall to buy?"

They down their drinks (clearly not water) and fisticuffs ensue. Everyone goes for Slip's kidneys because these things matter!

About 12 seconds later, we're all exhausted. More drinks are poured because we think we're old-timey reporters and, well, we are RPGers; it's like a LARP. We talk it out.

Here are our Top 10 Most Anticipated RPG releases at Gen Con 2015 (in alpha order).

Chill Third Edition from Growling Door Games, Inc.
Cthulhu Britannica: London and related releases from Cubicle 7 Entertainment
The Cypher System Rulebook from Monte Cook Games
Deluxe Tunnels & Trolls from Flying Buffalo, Inc. (FBI)
Fantasy AGE releases (Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana and Fantasy AGE Basic Rulebook) from Green Ronin Publishing
Feng Shui 2 from Atlas Games
HeroQuest Glorantha from Moon Design Publications
Lankhmar / Nehwon from Pinnacle Entertainment Group (Savage Worlds) and Goodman Games (Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game)
Pathfinder Roleplaying Game releases (especially Occult Adventures) from Paizo Publishing
Star Wars: Force and Destiny Core Rulebook from Fantasy Flight Games

As you can imagine, some releases were championed but just missed the cut. Those include The Last Parsec (Bruce); The Lone Wolf Adventure Game (Kai); The Ninth Doctor Sourcebook (Bruce); Savage Worlds Test Drive with Triple Cross (Bruce); Shadowrun (5th Edition) releases (Kai); Vampire: The Dark Ages (20th Anniversary Edition) (Bruce); Apocalypse Prevention, Inc. 2nd Edition (Steve D.); Atlas of Rokugan (Steve D.); and Worlds Numberless and Strange (Steve D.). Yeah, if you noticed that all of Vestige's picks made the top 10, give yourself 5 xp. Who invited him anyway? Oh, yeah, "Editor Emeritus."

The Steves and Kai lean back in their chairs with wistful looks in their eyes. "What'cha thinking about lads?" I ask.

Quote:
For me, I'd love to see it be the year of Third Eye Games. The only thing of theirs I'd pick up is AMP Adventures but that's because I've either received or have everything else on pre-order. I think some of the Mythic stuff from Legendary Games would also be a hot buy for me, but I've got their new stuff on pre-order

Of those ten, I'd be most likely to pick up the Fantasy Age releases (because I'm excited about Titansgrave) and the DCC Lankhmar stuff. If the Savage Worlds Lankhmar stuff is good I might have to add it to my list of games.

Quote:
Sentinels of the Multiverse - It's not releasing at Gen Con, but it will have its first preview. One of the biggest indie board games of the last five years moves into the RPG market with a star-studded team of designers. Will they generate momentum toward a release? Will they entice some boardgames into the RPG sphere?

Quote:
And here's my imaginary tour of Gen Con with the items I would grab:

Let's first visit Third Eye Games and get a copy of Apocalypse Prevention, Inc. 2nd Edition. I watched the KS and almost backed it but in the end missed it. Eloy Lasanta's games always look interesting and a humorous take on monster hunting should be fun. From there I wander over to Alderac Entertainment Group and try to grab the Atlas of Rokugan. I've always been a fan of atlas-type books for RPGs and I really L5R. Might take some time to fight through the 20th anniversary crowd though. Exhausted but with two books I head over to Cubicle 7 and get a copy of Keltia. Now, I've been waiting eagerly for this, a game about celtic Britian, being a knight at the court of King Arthur... that's a childhood dream come true. Now let's visit ODAM Publishing and try to grab Of Dreams and Magic. Another KS I missed and another regret - the game looks fun and the session reports I've read suggests it might be right up my alley. Last stop on my shopping tour is Faster Monkey Games with Worlds of Catthulhu - Catthulhu, need I say more? And after that I head over to Onyx Path Productions and chat with Rich Thomas. Maybe I can get my KS Deluxe Edition of Dark Ages: Vampire early... and then I wake up. Just a dream... *sigh*

I toast their answers and chuckle as I wish them adieu. I'm going to Gen Con boyos! What's my off-the-beaten path item? I really don't know. I love going up and down the aisles looking for that mystery item: the company with a booth no one knows; the annoying publisher that doesn't update their website that has something new and shiny; that release that wasn't supposed to be there. I can't wait.

Did we get it right? I'm sure you'll let us know in the comments.

Many thanks to Steve, Steve, and Kai. I really enjoyed getting their input this year and hope they don't track me down for kidney-punching.
