Nations dice game: experience the core of Nations in 30 minutes!
mbmbmbmbmb
We are still working on the new Collection. It took much longer than anticipated, and it will take some more time still before it is done.

Search is currently broken on beta, sorry for that. It is working in the dev environment, but backporting it from there caused other issues.

Next week Sol will get married, so the pace will slow down for a while.

I hope we will have a new release in 3 weeks from now.

Nations dice game: experience the core of Nations in 30 minutes!

Thanks everyone! There have been a lot more delays than anticipated with several rounds of hardware problems, things on the current site that have to be fixed, sickness and a bit of vacation. We are also considering a major change to the collections system, investigation of the options have taken time and means collections is not done. Plays are tied to this too. Even so, many useful bug reports continue to be added. Thank you, they help a lot!

Accelerator
There is a new function active on the beta site now, the accelerator. It is a popup with some basic game information and links to rate and add it to your collection. It is triggered on almost all links to a game, and shows up as a blue I-icon. Please help with improving this! What should be displayed directly on the popup, what should be links, where should it be displayed, where should it not be displayed, how should it behave? Report bugs and specific things that needs to be changed through bugdigger, but things to discuss is better handled in this thread. We will probably have to wait with any really advanced requests and will not be able to change it drastically from how it looks now, but I would like to know all the really cool things you think we can do with this tool.

Some of the issues that were fixed during the last week. Please check, especially if you reported it.
Files from other domains show up. Fixed.
Next button doesn't work for choosing image on geeklist item. Fixed.
Image upload broken. Various things regarding this fixed.
Submitting a video for an item gets you into a feedback loop. Fixed.
When you add a video, you can't detail where it is hosted. Added options for YouTube and Vimeo.
No longer able to see who has thumbed a post. Fixed.
Javascript and other references not working for game statistics. Fixed.
VGG Platforms links don't work. Fixed.
Picture upload to personal gallery seems bugged. Fixed.
Never permitted to delete my own items from my own geeklist. Fixed.
Thumbs overview: No total given. Fixed.
Descriptions for boardgame ranks are missing. Fixed.
Sessions bucket not populated on RPGG. Fixed.
No posts shown on game page with Compact or Mini style. This is fixed, but if you have trouble with this you have to remove the block and add it again.
GG tip font not legible. Fixed.
Search All does not always bring back results. Fixed.
Hard to read username against blue background. Fixed.

Thanks for your help!

Changing Domains
If you want to change domains you click on the images on the footer of the page, the URL won’t change but until you do something to change again you should still be on the new domain.

New Global Forums
Although there are three “domains” to the geek, in the end it is only one big site, instead of a simple network of sites. In face of that there has been a change to the organization of the forums. The old GeekDo News got some new friends, and they are now visible on the Forum list under “Global Forums”. The new forums are:
- How to Geek;
- Geek Bugs;
- Geek Suggestions;
- Complaints Department;
- RSP;
- Spam;
- Testing;

When we launch (but not before as this change would affect the live site as well) threads that are now on the equivalent domain forums (for Geek Bugs it would BGG Bugs, RPGG Bugs, etc) will be moved to the Global Forum. Also, a new forum, again only on launch, will be added to each domain called “Domain Discussion”. This forum will be a catch-all type to encompass domain specific bugs, suggestions and how-tos. These will become rarer as time pass, so it should be easy to manage only one. The Off-Topic forums (Arcade, Chit Chat and Tavern) will be kept separated and will be moved from the Everything Else header to the DOMAIN Related header. We have not decided on the Creative Fodder yet.

Empty pages
Some pages, especially things that are sorted by Hot might appear empty the first time you check. If you recheck it after about 5 mins it should show correctly. This is because you might hit a cache that is not created yet. And after the first hit it is created.

Geeklist items must have a description.

Other known issues, new are underlined

Default front page will be overhauled.

Green question mark images are placeholders.

Subscription to blog posts does not reset, reset them manually on the subscription screen.

All customization settings will be reset when the site is released.

The customization has changed completely. You can click on customization on the bottom of the navigation panel and change what block of information to show, and edit the details of each one.

Checking your geekmail or a subscription might not correctly mark it as read, so there might be a difference between the beta and the live site. There might also be a delay within the beta site itself, so it might look like you have new subscriptions at the top of the page even though you do not.

Image caches have partly been regenerated. This means that small images look badly cropped.

If you change the page or filter on the hotness and hit the back button it opens the hotness on the center bucket.

The “Next Unread Item” might hit an error page. That is because some of the subscription types have not been converted yet, so if you hit one of those it won’t work. This is especially true for Marketplace.

Most of your old quickbar links should be converted, although there is a bug where the pages are shifted 1 to the right (so your first page is now page 2). They are not synced with the live site and will be converted again before release.

We had several rounds of problems over the last week, noted in the comments to the last update on the geek developer blog. All should be fixed now, including that Bugdigger reporting now works again and images are shown.

The only known hardware-style problem regarding the beta that remains is that the beta is the only thing that remains on this server. It is being moved, the move will be complete next week. You will not need to update anything, please keep logging reports for any problems you encounter.

Collections have come a long way, but it is a big system and much remains. Nothing is ready to release now, sorry. Next week we'll have several parts of collections ready for testing, including a shortcut for working with the collections from most links to games. The personal collection page will not be ready thou, it needs to be overhauled later.

We got hit by some server bugs over the weekend due to the leap second that took some sorting out, and are now in the middle of work on Collections. It should be ready for release in a week, together with some related improvements. Next up after that will be Plays.

Thanks for testing! We are now working on collections and then plays, so there should be more to test in the coming weeks.

Icons
Icons have been updated with the work going on in this thread, but many are still missing. It will be an ongoing project, if you want to help with that please check that thread!

Search
The search box has been improved. Lots of small graphical things here, if you notice anything odd please report.

Some of the issues that were fixed during the last week. Please check, especially if you reported it.
Admin GeekMod Image needs separation between items and larger images. Fixed.
Resize image thumbnails. Partly done, for example the hotness is fixed.
Next subscription link on every page. Fixed.
History broken if you hit back while loading. Fixed (this is not the "going to wrong page if paging through a block").

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for testing Subscriptions! The seem to work ok, with the known problems.

Reworked header
The header at the top of the page has been restructured. It now has the next subscription link as an icon, as well as the quickbar as an icon. There are some small graphical glitches that are known, but please test and report on things that are not working. A larger restructuring of the menus will come later.

Placeholder icons
There are many placeholder icons on the beta site. They are round, green, with a question mark in them. We need help to both know what the icons should look like and with creating them. If you want to help with this, post suggestions in the comments and vote for other suggestions that you like. Please specify clearly where it would be used. The icons should be 16x16px. Related to icons is the logo, I just want to remind you that it is temporary and willb e changed.

Some of the issues that were fixed during the last week. Please check, especially if you reported it.
Forum pagination not working. Fixed.
Log In Problems due to top bar not refreshing. IE problem, fixed!
Geekmail not displaying. Fixed.
Selecting "New Label" in pull-down doesn't complete correctly. Fixed.
Stack overflow @ line 394. IE problem, fixed!

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for testing GeekLists! Some small things remain, but now GeekLists are considered to be working. Sorry for the delay with this update.

Please test Subscriptions this week.
The header is still being reworked, hopefully we have a new version of it ready by next week, which will include a button for next subscribed item. Right now that button is only shown in the footer. Some other things to know when testing subscriptions too:

The header unread counts may not update correctly (both geekmail and subscriptions), for either master or beta.

Blog posts do not clear from subscription list automatically by visiting them. This includes posts on BGG News. To clear them you have to go to your subscription page and click ”Mark read” manually.

New Geekmail may not show up immediately on beta even though you see them on the current site.

Some of the issues that were fixed during the last week. Please check, especially if you reported it.
Printer friendly broken. Fixed.
Pager missing sometimes on Gone Cardboard. Fixed.
Unable to subscribe to video. Fixed.
Upload Image button when composing doesn't have a tool tip. Fixed.
Blog: Cannot add "Items Included in this Post". Fixed.
Vertical space on wiki pages. Fixed.
Images in geekmail are zoomed in to 100%. Fixed.
Adding a Geeklink to your geekmail or changing font wipes your mail content. Fixed.
Geekmail formatting errors. Fixed.
Cannot hide geekmail filters. Fixed.
Can't display comments on Blog Page. Fixed.
Default filter should be to show all. Fixed.
Cannot subscribe to some subforums. Fixed.
Geekblog subscription link doesn't work. Fixed.
Marking an item as read does not refresh the "New" number in the menu. Fixed.
'Subscribe' button missing in the header of the item page. Fixed.
Blog: Publish time field needs text. Fixed.
Geekmail not displaying. Fixed.
Attempting to publish a blog post fails. Fixed.
Trashing a geekmail should keep you in the same page. Fixed.
Cannot subscribe to a specific blog post. Fixed.
Left sidebar 'fade' on load a little jarring. Fixed.

Thanks for your help!

Nations dice game: experience the core of Nations in 30 minutes!

Thank you for testing Blogs, GeekMail and Tags, and also everything else that stopped working after the security updates! There were a lot of reports, many more than the last months, and they are very helpful. Most things have only been reported once, and most problems can be identified immediately and fixed. We are working on these bugfixes, but at the same time we want to move forward with new features.

After releasing those systems we started focusing on GeekLists, and with some delays and other things that took priority they are now ready for testing. The way GeekLists work has been changed from the current site, most importantly the number of comments shown. The big reason for the change is to reduce the load on the servers. The number of comments shown by default per item is 2. This can be changed in the layout settings.

Please test GeekLists this week. Use the test account if you do not wish to do things with your own account.

Welcome to the new beta testers! All who have signed up have now received the invitation email, if anyone has not please notify me (geekmail or email).

Some of the issues that were fixed during the last week. Please check, especially if you reported it.
On wide layout, center pages that do not adapt in width. Fixed.
Geeklists always showing in Subscription. Fixed.
Master: Number of Wishlists doesn't appear on browser results. Fixed.
Microbadges broken on game pages. Fixed.
Microbadge:Related badges images broken. Fixed.
Logout/Login button label and search options are white. Fixed.
Subscriptions page should show all new types at once by default. Now shows all types by default.
Cannot change layout settings. Fixed.
Some images look broken in a new geeklist. Fixed.
Geeklist needs separation between comments for last item on page and list comments. Fixed.
All game reviews loaded when attempting to look at review forums for a specific game. Fixed.
Profile Buckets won't remember Domain. Fixed.
GeekList not found by search. Fixed.
Browse Video shows no filters. Fixed.
Editing profile HTML-encodes ampersands. Fixed.
Show Large image by default. Changed, and there is an option to select the default size.
Blogposts do not have a subscribe/block option. Fixed.

Thanks for your help!

Image caches have not been regenerated. This means that for example the hotness images look very odd.

The release this week is delayed, sorry. We are working on some major changes to GeekLists that are mostly finished, but a car crash that cut the power for Sol's building has made his work conditions a bit harder...

Thanks everyone for testing Blogs, GeekMail and Tags! Many very helpful reports, many more than the previous couple of weeks with few updates. Thank you!

We would be helped by getting even more though, so if you feel you have some time to help please do. You do not need to report lots of things, if you report one thing it helps and if you report a single thing every week it helps very very much. If you need help with setting up BugDigger, please check the instructions and ask me (Rustan).

This week there are very few normal bugfixes and other updates, instead we have implemented all the security fixes on beta that were previously implemented on the current site (and broke a couple of things there). Please report everything that worked before but that have stopped working now.

One major thing that is partially broken right now is GeekLists. The images for the items are not showing up. We are aware of this and are working on updates to the GeekLists, so that does not need to be reported.

New testers are welcome to sign up at http://eepurl.com/iLMIP Please read ALL the instructions that will be sent out, both on how to create reports and about the current state of the system. Please focus on the things that are considered finished and especially the weekly focus. One email per week will be sent to you if you sign up, both to inform about updates and the current focus, and remind you about the beta. You can however unsubscribe at any time and are not promising anything. Thanks for helping!
