I've got the pleasure of being able to kick off the Pathfinder section of RPG Geek News with three big news items from Paizo Publishing:
Firstly, many people will already have heard of the Pathfinder Battles pre-painted miniatures range, produced under licence by WizK!ds (WizKids). However, it's only in the last few days that the final line-up of minis in the first major set, Heroes & Monsters, was confirmed by Erik Mona on the Paizo Blog. The final three miniatures in the 40-strong set were revealed to be a wolf, a mummy, and a chimera. A fan site at www.pathfinderminis.com is maintaining a list of all of the figures, together with photos of almost all of them.
Next is the imminent release of the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 3. Paizo have been heavily previewing this book with a series of blog posts featuring sample creatures:
- Two New Kami: Shikigami and Zuishin
- Enter the Dragon!: Young Forest Dragon
- Misfit Love: Kamadan
- Unflinching Evil: Tzitzimitl
There's even wallpaper available! As can be seen from the list above, many of the monsters have an Eastern feel (tying in with the Jade Regent Adventure Path), but reassurances have been made that there is plenty more besides in this 320-page hardback. The Bestiary 3 is due to arrive in stores (and as PDF) later this month.
Finally, Paizo have just announced and opened RPG Superstar 2012, the fifth year of their open-call RPG design contest. Previous winners and finalists include Neil Spicer, Rob McCreary, and Jason Nelson; names that may well be familiar to fans of Pathfinder products. After five rounds of competition, in which the judges will ruthlessly whittle down the entrants, the winner will have the chance to write a Pathfinder Module to be published in 2013. The three other finalists will be rewarded with assignments to write Pathfinder Society Scenario Season 4. The closing date for entries in the first round is 6th January 2012, while the winner is due to be announced in April 2012.
