Games in the OEK (Open EinzelKnaller | Open One-Shot)
-
This is a list of all the role-playing games we have offered or played in the context of the Open EinzelKnaller, which is a sort of roleplaying group 2.0 offering a variety of one-shots to whom ever is interested in and around Bremen, Germany.
More information can be found here: Open EinzelKnaller Portal (German only)

This was the kick-off of the OEK. We had three players (all but me unexperienced with regards to indie-games) and took about 3h to get to the grand finale.

Initially we planned on trying my Univeralis + Dawn of Worlds mash-up (German only a.t.m., sorry), but we preceeded this by having a vanilla Universalis game one week ahead (with almost the same players).
We ended up fighting space tentacles on a doomed space station which only two persons could escape (one of the tenets). Also, the celebrity bride hired a PI because she suspected her fiancé's brain had been stolen (super-scientist). A crazy AI did the rest to make for a thrilling scenario. This took about 3.5h together with a thorough rules introduction (why do I always wind up using Star Wars and Luke Skywalker as demonstration?).
The U—DoW hack also worked well, though some minor tweakings were needed. We did have trouble sketching a donut-shaped world on ordinary 2D paper, though. Also, it felt a bit like Populous with heros and personal stories mixed in.

We tried to free the small town of Snakeriver from demonic influence, but we got wound up in problems with keeping apart cause and effect. We had 3 players plus GM and took about 3.5h before we called it a day (unfortunately not having solved all the problems).

We played the scenario "Das Blutritual" (free D/L, German only). It was pretty straight forward, but the players (and me) liked the light-weight gameplay, the exaggerated combat and the overall coolness of their characters, while fighting half-baked demons. The scenario took no more than 2.5h together with 30 minutes of char gen for four players.

We had the scenario "Die Herrin vom Spinnenberg" (free D/L, German only a.t.m.) where the heroes are sent out to clear a cave off Goblins, and find bane spiders and an old grave with an undead queen deeper below the mountain. Char gen was done in advance by the players so we focussed on half-serious roleplay and a lot of battle mat combats, together with levelling up from 1 to 5 during the scenario. We took about 3.5h for everything with 4 players plus GM.

A squad of three elite soldiers went to "investigate" the circumstances of a science lab on an ice planet not answering any more. In 2.5h we fought a lot of battles and destroyed the source of the ice-aliens, together with preceeding char gen and following character advancement.

Engel has been played (Arkana System) and the players were all very enthused about it. I did not have the chance to participate, though.

8.
RPG: Fiasco
[Average Rating:8.28 Overall Rank:2]

-
We played in a southern town with five players: a russian drug dealer, his boss and cocaine lord whose star lawyer was the grandfather of a wayward youngling (whose accidentally stole a suitcase of cocaine) who is on parole, his parole officer being the bookie of the drug dealer. Needless to say, it ended in a mess, with a suicide, a burning man falling from a cliff and more. A real Fiasco.

A very intense romantic (or is it gothic?) horror game. We had a good time playing one evening, but it turned out crucial to have more engaged minions for a longer game session. Still, a nice game.
