Biography From the Artist's Website:
Born 28th November 1968
Earliest Influences Messing around on the hills and the rivers where I grew up in Sussex. Comics. Alan Garner books. Catweazle.
Art College Mostly miserable yet painfully necessary. Days on end staring at onions and bottles attempting to represent them on huge bits of paper with a decorator's brush. Forced to study art that I wouldn't have looked twice at before.
These lessons proved invaluable, but as the two year course progressed they dwindled, along with my interest. Spent a large amount of time avoiding tutorials sitting by the Thames and learning to play the guitar, which was also invaluable.
First Job Tharg's Future Shock for 2000AD. Very exciting, having been a fan of the comic for years.
My comic career never really took off- I was a bit upset about this at the time but I think it's probably because I wasn't very good.
Music After college spent a lot of time being in bands and seriously trying to 'make it'.
An amusingly disastrous tour of Northern Europe marked the end of my career in 'Rock' music- I moved to Devon permanently to concentrate on Illustration.
Making Pictures Having tried most media at some point (collage, acrylics, sculpture, thick paint, thin paint, combinations of all these etc.) I now mainly produce work on a Mac, scanning sketches, bits of paint, lentils, hair (or anything that seems appropriate) and arranging them until a picture emerges.
Inspiration Where I live (Dartmoor) has a major influence for various reasons. Otherwise ideas come from everywhere- watching a film, walking round Sydney Opera house, the dog pulling a stupid face; anything.
