Subtitle: A minisystem for any RPG with sailing ships
Inspired by the Beaufort Scale for assessing wind strength for sailing ships at sea, this system-neutral "mini game" can be used with any RPG that features ships with sails. The GM can use it to see how much havoc a random storm can wreak on the PCs' lives - always good clean fun!
This was an entry in the 2015 200 Word RPG Challenge hosted by David Schirduan at schirduans.com, and was released under the Creative Commons 4.0 license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). And yes, it contains only 200 words including the title and author's name.
The complete mini-game is found in the File section below!
Note that if the GM has a storm of particular intensity in mind, the you do not have to randomly roll for one. Simply assign 7-10 for the various categories of gales, for example, or 11 for a major storm. Or 12 for a hurricane ("that which no canvas could withstand") if you really want to be sure to damage their ship ...
Note: This is the Elaborated edition.
This edition does not change any mechanics from the original 200-Word contest entry. Simply by going slightly beyond the 200-word limit, I have been able to clarify my original intent. I have added an illustrated cover page, but the basic text is still contained in one page.
