From the packaging
"Gamescience Incorporated of Gulfport, Mississippi, has finally announced that its revolutionary 100-sided die is ready. The unique dies is the only one ever created that can generate numbers up to and including 100, without the use of a second die. It is also the first die to be numbered from the inside. Its clear plastic exterior shell protects the digits from prematurely wearing our and also captures and reflects all nearby lighting to give the die a beautiful luster.
"A special breaking compound inside each die assures that the die stops before traversing an unacceptable distance, after rolling far enough to be random. A patent is pending on the 100-sided Zocchihedron(tm).
"Because no one knew how to place 100 identical faces equidistantly on a spherical surface, it took three years to complete this project ... The breakthrough came when a casual suggestion prompted Lou Zocchi, president of Gamescience, to visualize the correct approach. Although Zocchi's first try with the new approach failed to produce a 100-sided die pattern, it did create a 79-sided die. Zocchi's second attempt discovered the pattern for the 100-sided die."
User Notes:
The die came in plastic packaging with a reference sheet listing the page numbers of all the percentile tables, by page number, for all of the AD&D products in print at the time. The back of this page contains an article titled Exploring the Medieval Marketplace with a percentile table for generating random encounters with various vendors/merchants. (Package also came with two pages of catalog information.) This catalog information indicates that the Zocchihedron was available in the following colors: white, blue, yellow, green, orange, violet, red, brown, black, & gray.
