WEGS - The Wickedly Errant Game System

WEGS is the Wickedly Errant Game System. It was designed by Larry Wickman and released by GameWick Games in August 2007 under the title WEGS 101 Old Skool. The initial release was at Gen Con, Indianapolis. The system was launched as a sword and sorcery ruleset called Old Skool. The fantasy system is also known as WEGS 101.

WEGS is a six stat system, meaning that characters are defined by six attributes. In WEGS 101 these stats are: Prowess, Ruggedness, Stealth, Ingenuity, Grace and Sanity. Each stat is represented by percentile scores, which is the success marks for any associated action.

WEGS is a percentile driven system that uses 2d6 and 2d10. The system revolves around this dice quartet to resolve all game actions. There are only three core rolls to the system:

Stat Roll: The stat score of the character is the success mark.
Cold Roll: 2d6 randomly generate the success mark.
Odd Roll: The level of the skill establishes the success mark.

Another key element of the system is the use of Spoints (spell points). Every character has a pool of spoints that are used to drive their heroic action. Spoints are expended to pay for the use of key skills (thereby limiting the number of times such actions can be performed). Spoints are also used to increase the success mark. In WEGS 101, each spoint earns a +10% bonus to the success mark when used in such a fashion. The rulebook encourages the use of poker chips to represent spoints as this charges the dramatic effect of their use.

The system is further guided by a range of scores that alter the success of any action. These ranges are the Wicked Scores, Good Shots and Bad Shots.

Wicked Score: 01, 02, 03 - critical success
Wicked Score: 97, 98, 99, 100 - critical failure
Good Shot: 11, 22, 33, 44, 55... - bonus to action
Bad Shot: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50... - penalty to action

There are no charts to reference during gameplay. All action is driven by the character sheet and the dice. The system relies on dice to have the final say in all matters, hence the WEGS mantra: Odds-n-Gods.

Play is always affected by the odds of success and the fate of the dice. The WEGS system is designed for players to succeed their actions, but allow the dice to determine the level of that success.
