The third version of the HERO System (from Hero Games) was not released as a separate rulebook but was used for all of their RPG lines at the time. This system saw minor revisions throughout the 1980s until 1989 when the HERO System 4th Edition came out and was culled out as a separate set of common rules for use with all of Hero Games RPG lines.

Since the systems were in flux and a little different for each RPG line they produced, we have decided to group the first three early HERO System rulesets in this one entry. See the individual rulebooks for details on these early "systems".
