The rating of dice on Geekdo is 7.603? Huh? Granted, not all RPGs use dice, so that might suggest that there is a better way of doing things, but aren't dice as near to universally beloved as anything in our hobby? Who is not in love with them? Who does own far too many of them?
I don't get it.

I'd argue they should be the control item since they are almost ubiquitous. Thus they should rate a 5.5 here.

As both GM and player, I prefer card based. My players disagree.

So approximately half of all items on RPGgeek should be actively worse than just going out and buying the equivalent amount of d6s?

That's better than all of them if we rated dice a "10".
Actually, we both know that 5.5 won't be the median nor the average -- ratings will be skewed towards the higher end.

Roll a dice on it.
And another of my pet peeves gets punched...
dice is plural; the singular is die. You can't roll "a dice" as that's a contradiction.

Belgians are often so fluent that it's easy to forget English isn't their first language.

I rated them a 10! You'll also notice that dice do not appear in our RPG Item rankings (Browse->RPG Items) - they were specifically pulled out. I think it's fair not to have fairly generic items listed on our rankings lists.

There are many different kinds of dice.
This rating averages our sentiments for all of them. It seems about right, at least for me.
I hate the Fudge die. I hate specialty dice for WFRP 3.o.
I love the old school polyhedral dice, but think the relatively new % tens placeholder die is as overly busy aesthetically as it is undeniably useful.
Some novelty dice are amazingly awesome: http://lovelypackage.com/400-costumes-to-die-for/ Others, awkwardly obnoxious: http://xkcd.com/708/
Shouldn't this be a thread of odes to dice?

It's probably fine. Steffan seems to abound in overall awesomeness on RPG geek. Comments from some random internet punk roll right off his distribution curve, I'll bet.

That's just the sort of thing a jaded GW designer would say for a FAQ when really he just couldn't be bothered to proof read or test his own rules, hehe.

Yes, common usage indicates that "dice" is now acceptable when referring to a single die. Another instance where common usage and common sense are prevailing involves the split infinitive. Traditionally it is incorrect when we say, "To boldly go where no man has gone before!" The old English teacher in our minds will swat our knuckles for inserting that adverb between "to" and "go." But because 99% of us choose to ignore this rule because doing so simply sounds better, the rule itself is fading . . .

Anyway, I still think dice should be a 10. Where would we be without them?

Upon further reflection on this question, there's an answer that combines dice and a dice tower. This is worthy of a 10 rating:
I'll give ya that it's not very portable, so maybe it scores a 9.5 rating...
