The guide book implies that you should have a minimum of three players and up to five, if I read things correctly:
Quote:
Upon deciding to undergo the procedure, you were kept at the Institute until two to four additional patients with similar conditions could be found to assemble a therapy group.

I'm wondering if my assumption is correct, or if it could be played with two or with more than 5 people since, at the beginning, you start with:
Quote:
A bowl of pennies containing at least four pennies per patient.

Which brings me to my final question: Why at least four. Why not just four (per patient)?

There isn't a line in the game description that says "# of players", or the poll on "plays best with this number of players" like there is in the boardgame section of this site.
I feel that this information is very useful to someone wanting to buy it.

After having played it twice with 4 players, that seemed a very sweet spot and things ran very smoothly. I've played enough RPGs to have some idea how a game might scale - and given the mechanics I don't think Penny would work very well above 5. I'm sure others might have experience with more players so hopefully you'll get something concrete!

Two and some of the mechanics stop working. More than 5 and the game takes FOREVER. 4 is best, 3 and 5 are doable.

The reason for this...

Is because what the rulebook is saying is you need a bowl with a bunch of pennies. Exactly 4 per player will do, but you can also just grab a bowl with a whole bunch of pennies and you'll be fine as long as you have at least 4 per player.

Thanks, both of you.
I decided to take the plunge and I ordered it online.
I think that this might be fun to play with another couple, on New Year's Eve for example.
The theme and style of play really appeals to me; I hope I can convince my wife and two others to get into the roleplaying aspect.
