Players have been selected, this is not a recruitment thread.
The players are : cjbowser, Hida Mann, dancing_steve, nyriv, karlkrlarsson
A quick overview of the games background so you can get an idea of the "feel" before generating a character.
Set in the far future, man has solved, illness, aging and feeding, earth is a paradise where everyone can live forever...if they want.
In order to protect the earth from alien scum who might ruin it for everyone, the leaders on earth have decided to wipe out all alien life, just in case. Those on earth who are bored or just fancy some excitment join the army and join the jihad. You are just such people, you've joined the 16th Brigade of the 3rd Army. You are front line troopers (grunts)
And so, to creating characters :
1: Name your character. All we need is a surname, or a nick-name that everyone in 3:16 would use. e.g. Hudson or Too-Tall.
2: Reputation. A short phrase or word that describes your character. e.g. Too-Angry or Asshole or Happiest man on the firing squad.
3: You have two stats, FA ( Fighting Ability ) and NFA ( Non-Fighting Ability ). Split 10 points between these, minimum 2. FA is for kicking alien butt, NFA is for other pointless stuff like...breathing, running, climbing, administration, driving etc.
All players please post your characters to this thread. The next step will be to determine who is the Sergeant and who is the Corporal, then it will be weapon selection, but one thing at a time...

So... looking at the relative NFA's...
Tim 'Cheerful' Macquire with an NFA of 7 is designated Sergeant.
Marco Diaz with an NFA of 6 is designated as Corporal.
Everyone else is designated as Troopers.
So the next thing to do is select the weapon each of you carries. In the following lists I'll give the weapon name, and the number of kills it does at "Close", "Near" and "Far".
Each player, please pick "one" weapon from the appropriate list, and then if possible please update you character post above to include the weapon.
Troopers, select one from : Energy Rifle 1,D10,1 Slug Rifle 1,D6,D6
Troopers also get... Grenades D10,1,N/A ( hurts friends as well as enemies ) Hand to Hand 1,N/A,N/A
Corporal, select one from : E-Cannon 0,2D10,0 Heavy Machine Gun 1,2D6,0
Corporals also get... Grenades D10,1,N/A Hand to Hand 1,N/A,N/A
Sergeant, select one from : Slug Rifle 1,D6,D6 Heavy Machine Gun 1,2D6,0
Sergeant's also get... Side arm D6,D6,0 Hand to Hand 1,N/A,N/A
This is also an appropriate time to tell you guys that you each have standing orders.
Troopers Order 1 : Kill as many lifeforms as you can.
Corporal Order 2 : Maximize the kill ratio ( bugs vs Troopers )
Sergeant Order 3 : Follow directives from Officers Order 4 : Protect your troopers

But I want them all! I'll settle for a slug rifle, just to give us some variety...
And to rack up my kills before the Corporal can steal them.

And while we wait for the last weapon choices a note on equipment.
All troops have the following:
The MandelBrite Armour: Full body armoured suit including helmet. Pressuried to allow fighting in alien environments. (Can absorb one Kill and save your life)
Knife,hydration tabs,MREs,medipack,backpack,combat drugs,flares,field manual.
A note or two on the system.
Your character has two hit points, known as Kills. A third Kill, simply kills your character. If your character takes a Kill, you can opt to have your armour take the damage rather than you, but this only works once per planet.
Combat is fairly abstract. Your character will always be one of three ranges from the enemy, Close,Near or Far. Attacking the enemy is done with a D10 roll against your FA (less than or equal is a success). Any other action such as running closer to shorten the range or changing weapons is rolled against NFA.
Once per planet you can take combat drugs which allows you a re-roll but if you roll a 10 you take a kill ( probably overdosed but you can narrate it anyway you want.)
Each character starts with 1 possible Strength and 1 possible Weakness, . These will be defined during play. You can use one of these avoid death or complete a mission.
If you use a strength, you narrate a flashback to some incident in the characters past that gives you the strength or inspiration to destroy all the threats in the current combat.
If you use a Weakness, you narrate a loss. Your character leaves the encounter but this remove a threat token at the same time. You must narrate a loss, maybe being taken prisoner, losing a leg, running away screaming like a little girl etc.
Be prepared, characters are very likely to die, but there are always replacements in the military

Small correction, noone has to change anything. You just choose one weapon from the first two items and then you ALSO get the two following items.
Thanks for the heads-up!

Trooper Samuel "Van" Warren
Jumpy/Paranoid - Van was a student artist that accidently killed a man in a drunken agrument. He was given the choice of prison or enlisting in the 3:16th. He chose the latter and laments that choice every single day. When his fellow troopers found out he was an artist they started calling him Van Gogh, which was later shortened to Van.
