After we where done playing Meddling Kids we had some more time on our hands and decided to put in an adventure of Call of Cthulhu for our same group. We switched places in which I became the Gamemaster and we played in the present.

Christine and Andy took over the characters they played before: Andy was Billy Bob the drifter and Christine Brook River a Boston police officer. (see the session report on Castaway Island) Kwakkie drew up his character: Heinz Van Bradschinkelen a german circus artist.

The story starts over when Heinz goes to the police station to complain about the fact that a couple of parts of his circus tent got stolen. He meets up with Brook River, who handles the complaint and accompanies him to the scene of the crime. On the way over there they meet up with Billy Bob who is running around with parts of a circus tent. Since he lost his tent on the island he claims that this is a part of his own tent. Brook takes both of them to the station to sort it out. While she’s sitting in the station and the two are bickering another man comes with a problem. He’s a landlord and claims that there is something wrong with his house. Every time he rents it out the peope in the house have serious accidents, get mental health problems or even die. He asks the police if they can take a look in the house. The man gives her the keys to the house.

She decides to investigate on this and the other two since they have nothing better to do decide to go along.

First of all they go and have a look at the house. The house is a two story building, as they enter they notice quickly that the house is left in a hurry, a lot of stuff is still on the table and in the cupboards. They search the whole house. On the ground floor they don’t find a lot, except that they notice that there are a lot of catholic religious symbols in the living room.

While they pass the basement door, they decide to go down and have a look. This isn’t that easy since it’s dark and they have no light. One does go down and investigates the basement, it isn’t that big and has two rooms. One was obviously for coals but the door to the chute has been banged shut. As they search the rubbish inside the first room suddenly a knife begins to float around and attacks the player. After a short fight, the players runs back up and bolts the door behind him.

They go upstairs, there is nothing there except in one room. In this room there is just a bare bed frame standing at the wall. When they enter this room they suddenly hear a scratching noise near the outer wall. As they have a look at it, the bed starts to rumble and shoots to the window, Billy Bob who is standing at the window can jump out of the way just in time. The bed goes back to it’s original position. And now blood starts to drip from the walls in the room. The investigators had enough for now and quickly leave the house.

The investigators decide to have a chat with the last occupants of the house, this is the Macario family and father and mother are taken to the Roxury Sanitorium for mental treatment. The man is to mad to talk to but they can interview the mother who tells them that the house was very angry, mostly of her husband, things where flying trough the house trying to hit him and there where strange shadows in the house.

After this they head over to the library and check out some paper clippings about the house and some documents they find about it. In the newspapers they find a listing about everything that has happened to the house’ inhabitants during the last years. In the books they find that the last owner was a Mr. Walter Corbitt and he had caused some problems which ended in courtroom they also stumble upon a reference to the Chapel of Contemplation in which they find that a raid happened and 54 members of the church where arrested because they where part of a cult.

They head over to the Chapel of Contemplation but it is now just a ruin. However while searching the place they stumble into the old crypts in which they find some skeleton’s of cult members died in the flames when the church was raided and they also find a journal in which it states that according to the wishes of he who waits in the dark was buried in the basement.

They head back to Corbitt’s house, Billy Bob decides that he has a score to settle with the bed so he goes to the hardware store and buys a grinding wheel. When he enters the house he goes upstairs to the bed and throws it on it the wheel splits the springs but then just lays on it. Billy tries it out and stands at the window again, the bed still jumps at thim and he jumps out of the way just in time again.

They go to the garden and look if they can’t find a spot where the coal shute is, they find it but it’s nailed shut here as well. They force it open and a rat jumps out attacking them but running off quickly.

With a luck roll they realise that the basement doesn’t cover the whole house. They go down get into a fight with the floating knife again but get it stuck under a bucket. They start looking at the walls. One off the walls however is a fake wall, they start tearing it down and it’s very smelly, full of dead animals. On an interior wall the words: Chapel of Contemplation are written. They go through it and get inside another room. There is a table in this room on which some papers lay but the main feature in the room is the dead dried body of Walter Corbitt lying in the middle of the room. As they walk in, the dead man arises and starts fighting them. They start attacking him but it doesn’t do lots of damage since his body is guarded with flesh wards. At first Brook however gets under a dominate spell and walks out as Heinz fights of the undead Billy runs after her and prevents her to get under a car and brings her back to normal by hitting her. They head back in and fight further. However not long afterwards Heinz can’t stand it anymore and goes insane, falling unconscious to the floor. Brook and Billy keep on fighting but Billy now gets under a dominate spell and is ordered to walk up to the room above and stand in front of the window. Brook is the only one left standing but cannot gain advantage over Walter Corbitt and not long after that is killed by him. As Billy stands at the window the bed starts to rattle and shake and jumps forward pushing Billy through the window and falling to his death. No there only remains Heinz lying unconscious on the basement floor next to Walter Corbitt, it’s safe to say this ended in a T.P.K.

When I now saw this Coppelius, the frightful and terrific thought took possession of my soul, that indeed no one but he could be the Sandman.

Thank for the report. Always interesting to see what happens with other groups. Inspired me to finally post some GM tips on running the scenario!
