My name is Eliot Minefield

I am a chemical engineer working on a next-gen multi-purpose fuel for a multinational company.

What's been keeping you awake?

I try to find a cure for my wife's rare illness. Doctors give her a couple of months.

Every day, after hours, I use the company's labs to modify the fuel I am working on in hope that it will help correct the defective genes that are responsible for my wife's fierce disease development.

What just happened to you?

I accidentally killed my wife.

I injected her with the experimental serum and she exploded with a loud squeaky sound. Torn body parts and organs are all over the place. I am head to toe covered in her blood. I turn to the mirror as something grabs my attention and I see her reflection. No, it can't be her, I just... this is a nightmare... and I notice that she holds a bomb in her hands, no it's a clock, no it's actually a beating heart... I freeze in the thought that this is not a nightmare, it's happening, now!

What's on the surface?

Others consider me very professional and capable in my line of work, after all, my prestigious diplomas can't be wrong. I maintain this image by being vague and distant in my day to day contact with the industry experts and I have successfully adopt an absent minded persona. Plus, I always seem to be hurrying to get to some important meeting or project.

What lies beneath?

I have cheated through most of my academic career. I have stolen researches and counterfeit papers to the maximum. I have no idea what I am doing half of the time.

What's your path?

To actually invent a DNA-instilled fuel that will help people overcome the rare illness that... nearly cost my wife's life. And maybe redemption...?

Cool, we've got just a few more bits of info I'll need for your character sheet, but let's go ahead and get started shall we? When you have the chance, take the time to consider where you want to allocate your points of fight or flight. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, just ask Also I think I've got a good feel for your madness talent (blowing stuff up with wild injectable concoctions?) but I'll need some idea for what you'll want your exhaustion talent to be.

"Eliot...why Eliot?" you watch in horror as your wife's reflection in the mirror walks towards you. As she gets closer you notice that her skin is made of latex and she's dripping confetti from the gaping hole where her stomach should be.

She presses the still beating heart against the smooth glass surface. Cracks begin to spider along the pressure point, and from between them gushes a torrent of blood. You barely close your mouth in time before being swept off of your feet. "Swim!" you hear something scream at you. "For god's sake SWIM!" You gasp as you reach the murky liquid's surface and find yourself floating down a stream of some dark brown substance. The banks on either side are lined with malformed mannequins dressed in the latest fashions that your wife so loved to wear.

You hear a loud *SPLASH* from behind you

As you look around, you feel something bump your ankles. You can't see what's beneath the surface but you take note that the mannequins behind you are LEAPING into the water and swimming quickly your way!

"SWIM!" the voice echos from somewhere further ahead.

What will you do now? Regardless of your decision, you'll need to roll some dice to swim. If you don't remember the rules or need a refresher, just let me know and I'll do an overview

First of all, the title? Funniest thing I have read in a while!!!

Ok now, I am going to allocate 2 points to Flight and 1 to Fight.

My exhaustion talent I think it could be forging documents, is counterfeiter the right word? It might not be very exciting and I am not sure how it be useful or if it might help you work with it but it's 100% based on my characters backstory.

For my madness talent you were right. I want to be able to explode any liquid with my mind. From a bottle of alcohol or any small amounts of flammable substances, like a car's tank, to anything that is not flammable at all, like a cup of water.

I guess a small bottle with gasoline will be quite easy to make it explode and a huge amount of non-flammable liquid like a track with bottled water will be near impossible.

What do you thing?

Also will be rolling my three discipline dice (plus if I want to add my madness which I don't at this point) is that correct?

That sounds perfect! Counterfeiter is the right word

Just let me know whenever you want to blow something up and if necessary we'll discuss how many dice you need to roll.

I'd rate it as such:
1 madness: Blowing up a medium-sized container filled with a flammable substance
2 madness: Blowing up a large-sized container filled with a flammable substance
4 madness: Lighting a small object covered in a non-flammable substance on fire
5 madness: Lighting a large object covered in a non-flammable subtance on fire
6 madness: Blowing up a human being by igniting their blood

Let me know if that works for you Just take any situation and gauge it to the above whenever you roll.

The substance you are swimming in seems pretty thick and you're able to float atop it with little to no trouble. It normally wouldn't be that hard to swim to shore but whatever that is under the surface has started to YANK on your ankles making it difficult to keep your head above the surface.

You'll need to roll 3 successes to make it across the river. Those mannequins are closing in quickly!

F***!!! Three successes!!! Let's see, I will expend 2 exhaustion to add to my roll.

Eliot is afraid that what he is experiencing at this moment will be his last memory.
No, not even memory... I have to swim toward the voice, it's my only hope.

''Where the hell are you?'' he cries in the air and tries to swim towards the voice.

Discipline Dice: 1d6 = (3) = 31d6 = (5) = 51d6 = (6) = 6
Exhaustion Dice: 1d6 = (5) = 51d6 = (3) = 3

Nice That's correct, you'll now have a permanent two dice added to your pool. Just remember, if exhaustion dominates, you'll get more exhausted until you crash (you crash when you're exhaustion is above 6).

When I said successes I really meant "difficulty". It's the number of pain dice I'll be rolling in response to yours. I'll be more concise from this point forward!

Pain 1d6 = (3) = 3
Pain 1d6 = (2) = 2
Pain 1d6 = (6) = 6

Your rolls:
Discipline: 3, 5, 6
Exhaustion: 3, 5
Successes: 2, Discipline Dominating

My rolls:
Pain: 2, 3, 6
Successes: 2, Pain Dominating

Results:
You succeed with 2 successes and discipline dominating on a 5 vs 3.

Don't forget that you can now decrease your exhaustion by 1 if you'd like (or removing a check mark from one of your responses, but that doesn't apply right now since you haven't had to use them). You don't have to do this but it may help in the long run.

You pump your arms and kick your feet as hard as you can. You feel a hard thunk beneath you as your shin comes into contact with whatever's below the surface.

You follow the sound of the voice calling to you from shore and eventually find yourself clawing up the muddy bank. As soon as you're feet are on dry land you turn to face the chasing mannequins, only to see that they've stopped swimming along the surface of the river and are now just floating serenely by, all the life seemingly gone from their limbs.

You look around for the source of the voice. You can see a small dusty town off in the distance, but other than that it's all brown hills, black leafless trees and thick dust in all directions. Strange brown clouds float through the air above you and everywhere is the smell of cinnamon and what smells distinctly of opossum urine.

You hear the voice again: "SWIM! SWIM PLEASE! QUICKLY!". Strange...you've already made it to shore, why does it keep yelling that? Unless of course it was yelling to whatever was beneath the surface instead of you... Off a ways down the river you see a large tree with what appears to be a man standing in front of it.

What will you do now?

Strange. It sounds almost...mechanical. Like a voice you'd hear from a drive-through window at a fast-food restaurant.

I am in a state of panic. I have just killed my wife, teleported in an unknown location and chased by horrific big dolls, I am also wet! I look around for anything that I can use as a weapon. I grab a small stick and point it toward the voice.

''Who's there?'' I shout, ''I have a gun and I won't hesitate to...'' I pause for a second to hold the stick more like a gun than a sword ''...use it!''

(is the voice coming from the direction of what seems to be a man?)

"SWIM! OH PLEASE..~FRIES WITH THAT?~! SWIM! SWIM! SWIM! SWIM! SWIM! SWIM!"

The voice now seems to be stuck in some type of loop. The noise is grating on your ears and you find yourself grinding your teeth from the repetition. You wield your stick gun and notice that the voice is indeed coming from the man-shape.

What is happening? Is this a recording? Why am I so afraid? I need to get out of these clothes I am dripping.

I look around for a moment to see if anything is coming at me and then slowly - so veeeeery slowly, with my stick in hand, approach the man-shape. My wet shoes are making a squeaky sound as I walk there.

You approach the figure cautiously, stick-gun in hand. As you approach, whatever that noise is...whatever that shape is...moves! And quickly! It's too dark and hazy for you to get a good look at it but it's definitely coming your way! Every bone in your body screams for your to run but your muscles don't seem to listen. You're petrified but know you need to act quickly.

The sound of a clock ticking meets your ears as whatever it is comes running your way.
*tick Tock* *tick Tock* *tick Tock* *tick Tock* *tick Tock*

Is that a clock or your heart? You don't have time to figure it out.

What will you do now?

*tick Tock* *tick Tock* *tick Tock* *tick Tock* *tick Tock* *tick Tock*

This feels like a nightmare...it has to be! You pump your legs with all of your strength trying to get away from whatever it is that's pursuing you.

*tick Tock**tick Tock*

You hear a *TOING!*, the sound of a coil of wire being released and the hard *THWAP* of metal against the back of your head. You wince in pain and collapse to the floor.

You quickly open your eyes and get to your feet. The ticking has stopped thankfully but...where are you? A hotel room from the looks of it. Bright yellow neon lights shine the giant "M" of the Motel 3 logo onto the shod carpet floor. It smells musty here, the way only the cheapest of hotels can smell. Cigarettes mixed with body odor mixed with alchohol mixed with bodily fluids of all kinds. It reminds you of your high school prom for some reason.

You look around the room. 16" CRT TV, VCR Player, blood, $5 Wal-Mart lamp, a coffee maker that would hold maybe a cup or two of coffee lined with black tar from where it hasn't been cleaned in months. Wait...blood?

Your eyes are drawn to the bed. Your mind had to have played some sort of trick on you. "Mental Gymnastics" is what they called it in college. Your brain refuses to see what's actually there, and replaces it with something else entirely. A bowl full of maggots becomes rice crispy treats. That dead family dog on the side of the road is just a wad of plastic and paper bags. The picture of your lover on a missing persons billboard becomes an advertisement for a circus.

No, that wasn't fancy red linen on the bed. Not at all. Blood. The bed was soaked in blood. And in the center of it? Julie, one of the lab assistants from work. Well, at least most of her that is. It looks like she's been unwound, as if her skin was nothing but a tightly screwed up spring that someone had knocked loose. Her legs and arms were flayed into long spiraling ribbons and a large cog-like hole had been cut into where her stomach used to be.

She shuddered...or...wait, what? She's moving? You blink twice before realizing that's just not possible. You shuddered. That's it. YOU shuddered and the sudden movement made it look like she was moving.

*POUND POUND POUND* a hard heavy hitting sound comes from the door. You almost jump out of your skin in fright.

"Police! Open up!" a grizzled voice rings from the other side of the door. "This is the police! Open the door! You have 30 seconds before we kick it down!"

Your heart begins to race and slither. Wait slither? What...what's that noise?

You look behind you, back at Julie's body. She IS moving...at least her strips of skin are. They begin darting about, jerking her lifeless body to and fro. You hear a *hisssss*, or maybe you just imagine it, you can't really tell at this point. The skin snakes begin coiling your way as the pounding on the other side of the door gets louder and harder.

"Alright Jim, break it down!" you hear from outside.

What will you do now?

Again, I will try to dodge erm... Julie and lock myself in the bathroom in the hopes that I will win a few seconds and then I'll try to escape through the window.

If I can fit through it, and if there is actually a window in the first place...

I also hope the police will handle that awful creature.

Poor Julie, it seems like yesterday, the lab christmas party... the cranberry rum punch... the way she looked at me when I told her about my wife's illness...

*CRASH!*

You hear the front door break down in a hail of splinters and feel the floor lurch beneath you. Did they use a wrecking ball?

"Hrmm, where'd he go? Julie, pull yourself back together and tell us where he went for Pete's sake!" a voice like the police officers shouts from outside the room.

*Screech!* *Click tick click tick-tock click tick click!* You hear the rhythmic claps and taps of what sounds like a drum beat smacked out along the wall.

"She says he ducked into the bathroom. What a wanker...he's got no where to hide in there. Kick it down! Alright you bastard! We're coming in! Keep your hands where we can see them!"

You look around yourself for a place to escape. No windows, just cheap plastic stand-in shower and a plastic toilet.

"Psst! Down here! Hurry up!" you hear a voice coming from inside the toilet.

You lean over and notice a black cockroach with the face of Charlie Chaplin (...or maybe it's Hitler? Oh no, he's got the hat, definitely Charlie Chaplin.) leaning on the edge of the seat.

"Hurry up before they bust down this door too! You'll be dead before you can say 'The Undwinders'!"

What will you do now?

...I, erm, what...?

I stand there like a fool, thinking how ridiculous will seem if I put my hand in the toilet.

How desperate am I? I must be.

I look at Chaplin's face.

No... ew... I won't touch a cockroach...

But it's Charlie Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin is good.

Yes but, hahahaha, a crazy laughter escapes my lungs, my hand in the toilet?

I bring my hands toward my face and tears start pouring. I lift my right foot and slowly try to fit it in the drain. My head is going to explode from pressure.

You poor crazy bastard, you are such a pathetic coward, seriously? Your foot in the toilet? Are you stupid?

Feeling totally ridiculous standing there with one foot in the toilet a thousand thoughts pass me by. My wife, Julie, the horrors I've seen.

My head is going to explode, argh...

I think that now it's a good time to trigger my Madness Talent for the first time by accident due to the extreme pressure I am under. I will involuntarily blow the toilet up.

(Also I would like when I try to explode non-flammable liquids the damage from the explosion to be only force and not lethal. Imagine it as if the liquid is instantaneously expanding violently - wow the words I use!) It will above all act as an element of surprise. Damage, if any, will be generated in the aftermath of the explosion. Broken fragments of a container etc. What do you think about it?)

What should I roll now? My 3 discipline + current exchaustion 2 right? Do I have to roll Madness as well? How many?

If you're going to be using a madness talent, you'll have to roll madness die along with it. The amount is equal to how big of an effect you're wanting to produce. I'm good with the idea of having it do 'force' damage (non-lethal) at a reduced madness requirement.

To my recollection, you should only be at one exhaustion now, (Discipline dominated and it was the only dice you could renew) unless you chose not to remove one. Up to you.

So for now, roll your discipline + current exhaustion + 1x madness.

Narrate what happens when the explosion takes place. Does it happen immediately or when they bust through the door? I'm giving you free reign here so make it as wild as you want it to be

As I stand with one foot in the toilet I hear a loud burping sound!

F**k what now I think to myself and I realise that I am gazing the toilet for a while now.

And then it hits me! The toilet lid hits me, it comes right at my face in such a speed that I only have time to close my eyes.

I hear a loud plastic *dooong* and I fall back. Then at the same time a lot of water comes splashing at me and I feel little scraps of plastic and ceramic hitting me.

I try to wipe my eyes and then to my surprise I see what have happened...

Discipline 1d6 = (4) = 4 1d6 = (3) = 3 1d6 = (2) = 2

Exhaustion 1d6 = (3) = 3 1d6 = (4) = 4

Madness 1d6 = (4) = 4 1d6 = (3) = 3 1d6 = (2) = 2 1d6 = (1) = 1 1d6 = (3) = 3 1d6 = (3) = 3

Holy cow! 8 successes, madness dominating. You've definitely done some damage to the place! You'll need to check off one of your responses (fight or flight) and narrate what you do. How much damage was done to the place? Is the building even standing anymore? What happened to the guys busting down the door? You'll have full narrative reign so make it as exciting as you want!
