This will be our OOC thread for the campaign. Please post up your full character sheets as replies here.
This is also the place to post rules questions or clarifications, as well as a place to get to know each other better
When rolling dice, always have a background on your roll. We'll stick with the conventions they have in the book.
Discipline 1d6 = (6) = 6 Discipline 1d6 = (6) = 6 Discipline 1d6 = (1) = 1 Exhaustion 1d6 = (3) = 3 Exhaustion 1d6 = (2) = 2 Madness 1d6 = (4) = 4
In the above example roll, we'd have 3 successes with Discipline dominating on a 6.
Before you roll, I'll be telling you the difficulty of the roll. This is how many Pain dice I'll be rolling against yours. This should allow you to gauge if you'll need to add any exhaustion or madness dice to succeed. I'll post a little summary of the rolls afterwords and tell you the results, then we'll keep on moving with the narrative.
Also, please pick a set color for your character's voice. This may sound simple but it'll help me easily determine those things your characters are saying out loud and things your characters are thinking. Everything else is up to your guys style preferences. I'm pretty flexible
Example:
"What is the difference between a duck?" Paul asks the the rabbit eared bouncer.
Also, when replying to a thread, please feel free to flesh out the story some. I don't want this to be an "I rolled an X, now what?" game. We're telling a group story here, so participation is strongly encouraged. I get the feeling that's not going to be a problem here at all though
Richard's thread: Excuse me sir, but you got wife on my shoes...

test roll of discipline dice 1d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 = (2) + (5) + (3) = 10
test roll of discipline dice 3d6 = (1 + 6 + 1) = 8
test roll of discipline dice 1d6 = (4) = 4, 1d6 = (2) = 2, 1d6 = (6) = 6
Sorry about that! I am going to add my character sheet as soon as I come back from work.

No problem
This is definitely the place to test rolls!
No rush on the character sheets. We'll be able to float through a good chunk of the story without one for some time.

Here's a start. Do we begin with 0 in Permanent Madness and Current Exhaustion?
Jim Corning, Attorney at Law
What's been keeping you awake? Work. I'm a lawyer for Azure Enterprises, a multinational megacorporation. My team has been launching a countersuit against some idiot who says we stole his invention. We did steal it, of course, which is why it's taking lots of lawyers a lot of time to prove we didn't. If we win this, it'll mean a big promotion for me so I've been burning the midnight oil. One all-nighter turned into three and then ten and...I can't remember the last time I slept.
What just happened to you? The lawyers for the opposition just got better. A lot better. We were coasting on the fact that we had more money but they're using tactics that are mitigating that effect. If we can't present a compelling case to the judge ASAP, he's going to rule for the plaintiff, fine Azure a ton of money, and I'll get fired.
What's on the surface? I project the image of a hard-working, no-nonsense, corporate attorney who is Going Places. Tailored suits, $300 haircut, and shoes that cost more than some cars. You're either with me or you're ground under my wheels.
What's lies beneath? I'm scared. Every day that I show up for work is another day everything could come crashing down around me. This job has already cost me my marriage, my relationship with my daughter, and anything resembling a social life. The work is literally the only thing I have left. If I lose this job, I'd might as well just disappear.
What's your path? Jim isn't aware of his desire to return to the person he was before he started working for Azure Enterprises but that's truly what he wants. His quest is to no longer be solely defined by his career.

That's correct While your characters may be a bit off, they're not completely mad yet. They've only just awoken, so exhaustion hasn't kicked in yet. You can add to your rolls at any time by using either of these stats, it's just a matter of risking permanent madness or passing out due to exhaustion.

Thanks!
I'm pondering talents. I'll have something for them later today but I'm open to suggestions. Something super-lawyerish would be cool for his exhaustion talent but I'm having trouble coming up with something that fits and would be fun to play. Really Good Arguing? Flawless Memory? Not sure yet.

How about "The Truth, The Whole Truth, and Nothing But The Truth"
You can get your targets to tell the truth, even if they're not willing to do so.
At higher madness, you can get your targets to tell your version of the truth, even if it's a complete lie.
At the highest level, you can get your target to actually believe the lies you're forcing them to tell as truth, and get others to believe your lies even if they're outrageous ("There's a 50 foot moose standing behind you! Run!")

My name is: Eliot Minefield, age 45
I was a chemical engineer working on a next-gen multi-purpose fuel for a multinational company. I was very successful on my line of work, had an expensive car, a big house in the suburbs and married with my high school sweetheart.
Until:
What's been keeping you awake?
I try to find a cure for my wife's rare illness. Doctors give her a couple of months.
Every day, after hours, I use the company's labs to modify the fuel I am working on in hope that it will help correct the defective genes that are responsible for my wife's fierce disease development.
What just happened to you?
I accidentally killed my wife.
I injected her with an experimental serum and she exploded with a loud squeaky sound. Torn body parts and organs are all over the place. I am head to toe covered in her blood. I turn to the mirror as something grabs my attention and I see her reflection. No, it can't be her, I just... this is a nightmare... and I notice that she holds a bomb in her hands, no it's a clock, no it's actually a beating heart... I freeze in the sdden thought that this may not be a nightmare, this... is happening, now!
What's on the surface?
Others consider me very professional and capable in my line of work, after all, my prestigious diplomas can't be wrong. I maintain this image by being vague and distant in my day to day contact with the industry experts and I have successfully adopt an absent minded persona. Plus, I always seem to be hurrying to get to some important meeting or project.
What lies beneath?
I have cheated through most of my career. I have stolen researches and counterfeit papers to the maximum. I have no idea what I am doing half of the time.
What's your path?
To actually invent a DNA-instilled fuel that will help people overcome the rare illness that... nearly cost my wife's life. And maybe redemption...?

I know you guys have already read what happened with Dave. I'm a little on the irked side about the whole situation as Dave was really the driving force behind me being on the geek.
To top it off, last night I had to rush my wife to the hospital to have her appendix removed. So it's just been a bad day in general. I'm going to take the next few days off as break which I hope you can understand. I'll try to keep the posts updated here, but if I don't respond for a day or two, please don't think that I've dropped the campaign. I'm still very much interested in completing it.

I think yesterday I added a little bit of information on my bio, I forgot to mention it, it's nothing big just that:
I was very successful on my line of work, had an expensive car, a big house in the suburbs and married with my high school sweetheart.
Also I think I wear a white lab coat that has now turned to pink, because you know: blood + lake = pink

I'm back
Sorry for the hiatus. Wife is doing fine but that was a busy couple of days. Ended up going to a local gaming convention this weekend (Hurricon in Orlando, FL) and had some fun there. Played a great game of SPACE: 1889, which was a blast, then subjected myself to one of the worst games of DND I've played in my entire life (which is saying a lot).
Anyways, I'll be posting replies to your threads soon

Thanks
{redacted my long rant about the DnD experience to save the new players from having to deal with my grumblings...}
Anyways, that was my long-winded "don't call it roleplaying if you only care about miniatures combat" rant of the day.

Hey David is it frustrating for you that Eliot always tries to run away?
He is scared sh**less and I think that's what a real person would do (at first at least) in a situation like this.
I am waiting for the right moment, maybe when he had enough, to stand and fight/confront this nightmare. I just feel it's too early yet.
I blame your narration, it's so effing creepy!!!

Heck no! Not frustrating at all I'd be scratching my head if you were doing anything but running. Do what you think is right for the character. It's all about building up the tension and making the story explode by the time you're ready to actually face your nightmares head on.

And I have to admit that it's a very difficult RPG to run. Even more in real time on the table I guess.

Oops I might be a little confused here after all. I always thought that check off meant to actually erase one of the responses not add one. So now that I got that right I am going to add (check off?) fight. So I had Fight 1 and Flight 2 and now I am going to have 2 on both. Am I right?

Basically at character creation you have 3 total responses that you can assign to either fight or flight. These are a maximum; they can never exceed what you chose at the beginning of the game. You don't erase them, they simply represent a maximum amount of fight or flight you have.
Here are two examples of how this could look on your character sheet:
For our current example, you have a maximum Fight of 1 and a maximum Flight of 2.
If you choose to use Fight, you'll "check off" (mark) your single fight box
This means that you can't use the fight response again (at least not until you snap or you choose to reduce it after Discipline dominates).
The next time madness dominates and you have to select a response, you'll be forced to choose "Flight".
Once all of the boxes have been checked, you'll reset the check boxes and take a point of permanent madness, reducing your permanent discipline by one.
-> ->
From the point of snapping on, you'll be rolling 2 discipline and a madness instead of your normal 3 discipline. If you were to snap again from filling all of the boxes, you'd roll 1 discipline and 2 madness, etc.
Hope that makes more sense Let me know if you have any other questions.
