Fiasco - Dragon Slayers

One of our players has never played Fiasco before, but his actions in usual gameplay is so chaotic he would do excellent in a Fiasco so we tried it. The playest was Dragon Slayers, we kept a bit to the usual surroundings for our plays. We rolled our dice and came up with the following relations and characters:

Timo / Pipsquitch - Sorcerer (human)

Relationship: Adventure - Assassin and target
Need: To be a hero - so you can lord over everybody else

Robert / Jack - Assassin (human)

Relationship: War - Fighter and Coward
Object: Trophies: a gold ring on a mummy's severed finger

David / Lars - Giant thrall
Relationship: Magic - Master and Thrall
Need: To crush your enemies slowly and painfully

Leonie / Gwen - Apprentice of sorcery (halfling)
Relationship: Magic - Sorcerer and Apprentice
Location - The temple of Peace

Timo / Pipsquitch - Sorcerer

Somehow this feels a bit odd, playing a free form RPG while kind of re-enacting a more regular RPG but we sure are going to have fun while doing so.

Act 1, Scene 1
David is resolving. Lars was following Gwen into the Temple of Peace. She was having some lessons from Pipsquitch. As they weren't to be disturbed Lars was ordered to make himself useful and do some cleaning chores. While he was at it he enters a chamber filled with relics. One of the relics is a beautiful ring. When he returns to Gwen she however notices he is hiding something. She orders him to put it back immediately, how does he dare to steal in the Temple of Peace? Back in her cavern Lars is put on chains and gets no food for a couple of days. This was a serious crime.

Act 1, Scene 2
Gwen has gone back to the Temple of Peace for some more tutoring. She gets a lot of criticism because she tried several spells of which some have gone wrong. A fine example is Lars who accidentally ended up being a thrall Perhaps she should study the Wingardium Leviosa again? Back to basic oh dear. No, next time it will definitely go better, promise! She has to write a thesis. On the spot the subject is decided to interview Ashardalon the dragon. She will use Lars for that as well, sending him in with the questions and listing from a distance using a spell. Pipsquitch warns her though to wrap Lars in something protective as we wouldn't want Lars to be eaten.
.
Act 1, Scene 3
Flashback. Right after having defeated the dragon who was threatening the city, Pipsquitch, some of hist students and Lars (who was still normal at that time) are celebrating in a tavern. They are dividing the loot but it isn't as easy as it sounds. Pip and Jack get into an argument. Jack wants more, but being the cowardly one, Pip, Lars and the others did most of the work so Jack doesn't get what he wants. Pip get's his share, but probably this is the main reason why Jack has a death wish for Pip.

Act 1, Scene 4
Flashback. Jack has confronted Pip to get the ring. He knows Pip has it. He threatens him. Pip tells him to go through that long, long hallway. At the end he will find a dead, dead, I repeat dead, not living mummy according to Pip. Lars uses his sword to tamper with the dead body in the sarcophagus by putting it against the ear. No surprise, the mummy rises and makes inaudible sounds. Pip however controls this undead. He orders the mummy to attack Jack who, coward that he is, makes a way for it.

Act 2, Scene 1
Lars is on his way to the cave where Ashardalon resides in order to take the interview for Gwen. Hey there dragon. Oops, it is twoheaded. Mr. and Mrs. dragon. He asks the two heads some silly questions too, like asking for their age, what is the meaning of life (42) and such questions as can I take your treasure with me? He survives though and gets away unharmed.

Act 2, Scene 2
Gwen is back in the Temple of Peace. She has written down the answers and offers her work to Pip. He is surrounded by all his students and gives high praise to Sarah, his best student. As contrast he calls Gwen, not only being late with her thesis but apparently not even have tried to put something realistic together. Who believes this? An interview with a dragon? What kind of dragon would have given such answers. I never heard of such a thing. Gwen gets a thorough dislike of Pip, close to hatred for putting her down like that.

Act 2, Scene 3
Jack doesn't give up. He has prepared a trap for Pip and somehow Pip hasn't payed enough attention to his surroundings and he falls into a large pit out of which he can see Jack pointing at him with his sword. He insists on getting the ring right now! Pip gets a ring (not THE ring) out of one of his pockets. He doesn't realise yet he is giving the Cursed ring of wishes to Jack though, he thinks it is the Ring of Power. Jack rushes off with the ring.

Act 2, Scene 4
Jack has left with the ring. Now the dragon wanted that ring back, and has offered a reward for it. Afraid to lose the ring, Jack puts it on and is on his way to the double headed dragon(s) Ashar and Dalon. In some way he has managed to summon a demon dretch (like a slug) right in front of him which is now moving in his and Pip's direction. Pip was able to get out of the pit but they both have to run now from the monster.

Now we are halfway. Towards the tilt the scores are:
Lars 1 black dice
Gwen 1 black dice, 1 white dice
Pipsquitch 1 black dice, 1 white dice
Jack 2 white dice

The elements for the tilt are:
Somebody is not so innocent after all and Death after an unpleasant struggle.

Act 3, Scene 1
Lars is walking around. Suddenly Jack and Pip are running past him. The ring falls on the ground in front of him. He picks it up and puts it on. On Lars his mind isn't much, he is a mindless thrall after all, but he would like some desert. Bam! A gelatinous cube falls right on top of him. It is a freak accident, he becomes one with the gelatinous cube, he is assimilated.

Act 3, Scene 2
Gwen is still mad at Pip. She calls for Lars but he isn't coming. So she goes out and notices Lars inside the gelatinous cube. She notices he is still obeying her orders so she wants to grab the opportunity and tries to find Pip. Pip is done running for the moment (a slug is rather easy to outrun) and sought refuge in the Temple. Gwen finds Pip there and confronts him again. What has she done now? Another spell gone wrong? A buff spel or something? Nothing of that sorts. Look, I brought the teacher an apple. Strange, large apple though. Pip wants to make an expeditious retreat. He puts on the ring of the mummy which makes him invisible for Gwen. However not for Lars as he is now part of the gelatinous cube, and has blind sight. Lars has the order to get Pip. Pip runs right behind Gwen. The gelatinous cube and Lars are not smart enough to stay clear of Gwen. They sliver over Gwen, but miraculously she survives only with some slight burn wounds. Oh, and her clothes seem to have dissolved too.

Act 3, Scene 3
Pip has escaped from Gwen for the moment and has outrun the gelatinous cube. He wants the reward as well and heads for the dragon. He asks for only one reward, the dragons killing the halfling (Gwen) and her thrall. The dragons seem to agree, glad to have their ring of power back. Pip hides behind the dragon.

Act 3, Scene 4
Jack still has the cursed ring. He thinks of several things and strange things happen. It starts to rain, suddenly lightning. Grass growing 10 times as high as usual. Suddenly he sees Gwen. And where Gwen is, Lars cannot be far off. He has still a score to settle with Lars too. He utters the wish to get the thrall. The effect however is that Gwen turns into Jack's thrall. He doesn't realise that though

Act 4, Scene 1
After running over Gwen, Lars inside the gelatinous cube went straight on outside. He got lost somehow and comes to a small village with a tavern. He gets the silly idea to go inside for a beer. Inside is a small group trained adventurers back from a quest. Seeing Lars entering are, Drizzt, Do'Urclen, Elminster, Mystra incarnation and He-who-must-not-be-named.This might not end well for Lars...

Act 4, Scene 2
Gwen is now Jack's hostage. Jack want's to know if she can see where Pip is. She scryes for Pip. He is with the dragon she tells Jack. They go there. Jack sends Gwen to the dragon. Both dragon heads make toast of her and she returns with very severe burns. She stumbles back outside and falls on the ground. Still alive but very badly wounded.

Act 4, Scene 3
Wow, dragons, wonderful performance! Pip is extatic. Have fun with the ring, this was fantastic. I really had a score to settle with her. She had a draconicly bad thesis about an interview with a dragon. Lots of spelling mistakes too.

Oh...that was you both? Great resource materials etc etc. Pip tries to make his way out, but uses dozens of bad oneliners. He doesn't realise outside the assassin Lars is there. He suddenly feels an arrow in his neck, starts to feel very weak and crushes to the earth, close to Gwen.

Act 4, Scene 4
Jack is determined to get the right ring, he has figured out by now he has the wrong one. The easy solution seems to be to cut of their heads. He gathers enough courage to cut of the head of the male part. Oh dear, instead of a one headed dragon it becomes a 3 headed dragon now.....

Aftermath
Jack - white 15, fan fucking tastic
Gwen - white 8, nothing to write home about
Lars - white 1, dreadful
Pip - white 1, dreadful

Lars is captured in the tavern by use of a stasis spell.
Gwen uses a spell to regenerate, her wounds heal
Pip teleports back to the tempel and comes to the conclusion he has given away a very important ring
Jack still wants the ring, the dragon is somewhat stultified, Jack is able to go to the dragon's back

Elminster notices something strange about Lars, something is different from other gelatinous cubes. He takes him back to his tower for experiments, like cutting him in half.
Gwen is still in shock, she walks back to her hiding to recover
Pip has seen the ring would be very important, he looks into the future. A volcano is emerging, it cannot be stopped anymore. As Pip has no longer the ring of power or wishes he can only see hell and damnation in the future.
Jack gets the ring of power quickly. Runs off and proclaims himself king.

Lars, after years of being practised on by Elminster becomes forgotten, starts to starve and has to start eating himself in order to survive for now. He eats until the only thing left is a mummified finger with a ring on it.
Gwen starts to study very hard, she will have to do things better from now on.
Pip is surrounded by his smartest students. He sends a message to the regional manager not to allow Gwen into any magic course. In order to stop the volcano he tries with them to perform strong magic. But they do not get enough energy together.
Jack is now the mightiest person in the whole country. He has him built a large palace and lives the life of a prince.

Gwen decides it is time for a move. She travels several regions further to enlist in a magic course with some decent teachers this time.
Pip realises the energy is not enough. He starts to use blood magic, therefore he cuts the throats of his students, even his best student with tears in her eyes. Still it is not enough. In a last attempt Pip even cuths his own throat. Now there is enough energy! The volcano is succesfully closed. But it is something different now. there isn't any lava coming from it. It seems to give a glimpse into another plane of existence....
Jack marries some rich princess and conquers the rest of the world.

Gwen succeeds in her course with decent grades. Occasionally she turns people in thralls again.
Pip now sees the permanent portal to the layers of the abyss. Until eternity he is tortured by the soul of Sarah as revenge. The village and region are tortured by demons for several thousands of years....

I am not sure. We had a rough start. Only after roughly one and a half round things started to pick up some speed. If you wanted to play this with RPG noobs you would probably have a hard time. But when you have a background in regular RPG you can make good use of that.
