Hi, everyone! Nice to meet you, looking forward to the game

Is anybody building their own character? I'm still deciding on mine, so I'd like to see what you guys have in mind.

Hey everyone, excited to be playing.
I'm making my own character, and I'll be playing a Wizard.

Hi everybody! I'm really looking forward to this! I'm going to start working on my character tonight!
I think I'm going to go with an Elf Rogue named Roulan.

So, I have a little experience with RPGs before so I thought I would create my character at the end based on what everyone else decides. This way you can all choose whatever character you want and I will pick my character to fit whatever holes are need as a group.
However, I do have an idea for a character I want to be, so if it works out I am going to be a Rogue.
-
-
By the way, although I've read some D&D books I also have little practical experience with RPGs in general.
As for my character, I think I'll be a Human Cleric then, if that's OK. Any good deity from Eberron will do!

Hello everyone, it's good to meet you.
Sounds like we're missing someone who can take a hit or two. I'll probably end up creating a fighter of some sort.

I know that pez105 wanted to play an archer type character and asked me to create one for him. He will most likely end up as a Ranger or Hunter.

So it looks like we have:
Stossel - Wizard nmucia - Rogue landovers - Cleric pez105 - Ranger
I'm thinking maybe a Dragonborn Sorcerer or Maybe an Elf or Drow Avenger. Any thoughts?

From this thread and gm, I think the list looks something like this:
Stossel - Wizard landovers - Cleric pez105 - Ranger wesbaker - Fighter / Tough guy nmucia - Rogue, willing to change

I have played as a Sorcerer and it was fun at first, but then I wound up rebuilding him as a Hexblade since I wanted to get more in melee and Sorcerer just wasn't tough enough to stand on the frontlines. What exactly are you looking to do with the character?

Hiran Keyspirit - Dwarf Cavalier
I'll work on getting him all setup before the weekend.
Edit: Changed from Paladin to Cavalier because that's what's in Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms.

Hexblade sounds interesting! In most MMO's i've always preferred a melee damage character but i've also been drawn to magic. What really sounds interesting to me is an Avenger/rogue hybrid type. I love the darker side of the divine arts but want to be up front in the chaos of battle. I also want a character who is intelligent and cunning so as to be of benefit to the party in non-battle events. After reading through the player's manual I i was drawn to the rogue because of their versatility but there really doesnt seem to be enough depth in their character. Plus I know that nmucia would like to play a rogue and i'm open to other options.

I see where you are coming from. That is what I wanted out of my Sorcerer at first (magic, some melee, and versatility), but after a few sessions I found Hexblade (or even Warlock) to better fit that than Sorcerer. Now for another choice, I also found Druid to be a fun class. It can Wildshape and be in the fray with its beast form powers, and then pull back and go back to casting from afar. Also, consider that your race can also give you some of the added versatility that you want. For example, Changelings can take different forms or Kenku can mimic voices. That opens up a lot of possibilities outside of combat. Sorry if now you are overwhelmed with choices.
Edit: Mechanically speaking, it is not the best idea to hybrid two strikers (Ex. Rogue and Avenger). While it can be made to work, it is usually subpar and adds more complications than it is worth. For example, with a Rogue|Avenger, you could either roll twice or backstab, not both. You would need to keep 2 different stats high (Wis and Dex) to be able to hit with your powers, and Wis does very little for Rogues mechanically. I am not trying to discourage you, but if you are after the flavor, I recommend refluffing one or the other or going something completely different like Blackguard (dark paladin subclass).

I personally don't mind if 2 people want to be the same class, but I would ask for not the same build. Everyone wants to be in the spotlight sometimes and if two characters are too similar, then it is hard to share it.

Since I have been asked in GM by most of the party about what is allowed, I figured I may as well post it here for everyone to see and reference. I will be using current errata and would like to see the character sheets of the characters before starting. I reserve the right to veto something that just doesn't fit well (Ex. A Revenant (zombie) player in a group of Undead Hunters). However if you have a cool story about how that came to be, then I would allow it. (Ex. Blade's backstory)
What is allowed Books: Everything is allowed if you can get access to it. (Or ask me to look something up for you) Races: Any, but I dislike undead/monster races (Revenant, Orc, etc) Classes: Any Backgrounds: Any Themes: I am torn on this one. At level 1, they are just an extra encounter power and flavor (yay), but most are published in Dragon Magazine and unless you have a paid subscription (I do, but I expect most players don't), they are inaccessible. If you really want one, let me know, but I think it is easier to not allow them.

I think i'm going to go with the Hexblade. I found all the info online and will work on a build today. Thanks for the help!

I'm using Unknown Ediology's template from the "Bloodsand Arena OOC" thread. I made a strength based human cleric build:
EDIT: Character sheet is HERE.
Powers are all from PHB and Divine Power. Feats and Rituals I looked up online though, because some of the stuff I have seems outdated (Heavy Blade Expertise from Essentials makes the old Expertise feat useless). No background or theme for me. I'm still not settled on my equipment. I don't know if I'm murdering D&D canon or not by having a cleric wield a greatsword. I think a greatspear would look cool (also, Reach!). I think this is legal, but let me know if I made mistakes or forgot something! Also, any suggestions encouraged and appreciated. Sorry for the long post

Haha, that looks great so far. I was actually planning on creating a geeklist for you guys to post your characters in tonight, so that there was always a quick place to look them up rather than scrolling through a thread.
As for a cleric wielding a greatsword, why not? It seems like it is a fun idea and if that is what you want to play, then play it. That is part of the fun. A greatspear would be just as cool. Only thing I want to mention is that Pelor is at best a minor deity worshiped very sparsely in Eberron. Most Clerics worship either The Silver Flame or The Sovereign Host (or one of the gods that comprise it). The one closest to Pelor is Dol Arrah, god of "Good, Law, Sun, War, Glory" and his favored weapon is the halberd.

Quick Question, I'm looking at playing a Drow Fey Pact Hexblade. I know that I need to worship a Feylord deity, but i dont know where to find out about them. Any info?

There are 2 feypacts. The first is the Fey pact of the Winter Court. The typical flavor of this pact is some unspecified lord from the Feywild granted you power because it amused them or they are manipulating you to do their dirty work with other mortals. You don't need to worship that lord or even like them, but you made a bargain with them somehow, so this allows you to be creative. If you want some ideas of what the Feywild is like, check this: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Feywild or http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/drdd/20111101
The other Fey pact is the the Fey pact of the White Well. The flavor of this pact is the Lady of the White Well granted you radiant moonlight powers to find a way to free her. Here is snippet that describes her:
Quote: The Lady of the White Well is a tragic figure of the Feywild. She is the daughter of Sehanine and an eladrin knight, bound by Corellon's anger to the lake where she was conceived and born. Many suitors have come to that shore seeking the Lady's boon. To a rare few, she bestows the sword of the White Well in the hope of finding a true champion whose exploits can secure her freedom. This article introduces the Lady's sword of the White Well as a new fey pact weapon for those who would win the Lady of the White Well’s favor.
Of course, all of this can be refluffed however you like. Going back to my Hexblade (Dev), his pact blade was made from the tooth of ancient white dragon, and part of its evil spirit lived on in it. After Dev failing a mission and needed to survive a poison that his employers injected in him to ensure compliance, the spirit made its presence known to Dev and made a deal with him. Dev gained the limited power of the frost wyrm in exchange for giving his soul to be held captive and doing the wyrm's bidding.

OK, If you create the geeklist I'll edit my post to avoid cluttering this thread and move the character sheet there. I just checked an Eberron wiki too, and Dol Arrah and the Sovereign Host sound good. The greatspear also sounds interesting now since it's a polearm like the halberd, I'm considering it.
