Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
Cranberry's sidearm is in hand as he jumps out of the craft, sites up the nearest beastly figures, and let's fly several shots in quick succession.
FA2: 1d10 = (6) = 6
The shots go wild, but at least draw the attention of the nearest bugs who look slightly disoriented.
"Mason! Eddie! Give those two numbskulls from Charlie a hand with the seismic arrays! They've got their heads up their !@#!! We can handle the little skirmish from here!"

Resolution:
HITS
Eddie Dekker Summer The Aliens
MISSES (Must take a Kill or damage their armor)
Mason Tright Cranberry
Anyone who wants to embellish killing Aliens can do so. Those of you beneath The Aliens must describe the Kill you take as well as (in this instance) how you missed. Those above The Aliens may change their range one band for free.
ONE THREAT TOKEN REMAINS, so the encounter continues after everyone's finished this one. As there's only one Threat Token left, only the highest success will get to roll their kills.

OOC: The die roll needs to be less than the FA, not less than or equal to?
If so, I need to edit a post, as I missed!

OOC: Thanks Nyriv.
IC: Alien body parts fly as 16 of them are mowed down by Tright's E-Cannon.
Anyone that wanted to see them vaporize was disappointed, because the weapon punched holes right through them, and then the alien seemed to disintegrate and explode at the same time. Tright merely scanned the damage his cannon caused.
Tright stays at the Near range OOC: If that matters right now.

Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
With the extra precision from supporting the rifle to the boulder, Dekker's bursts of pure energy hit four aliens straight between their eyes, burning their way through their skulls.
Dekker stops to admire the power of the Energy Rifle as smoke rises from the holes on aliens' heads, and stays at the near range.
"How convenient, simultaneous killing and roasting."

Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
Between Encounters
A quick word or two about between encounters activities. Not too much needs happen here mechanically:
1) Each Player heals 1 Kill they have suffered (Armor does not repair until Between Missions)
2) Each player may switch their default weapon (the weapon you have in hand -- for this mission, I assume your main weapon, but later you may have a variety of fun guns to choose from)
3) I'll post a running tally of Kills, Threat Markers, and current objectives.
4) We dive right back into the action with a new encounter.
Pretty simple.

Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
The firefight lasted only seconds, but the surge of adrenaline (from your own nerve and the suit's helpful injectors) takes a few minutes to fade. Byt he time you're finished congratulating each other, Charlie has moved the package off the bus, and it lifts off, struggling unsteadily in the high gravity with only three working pods. Trooper Holmes is already working at the head of one alien. It looks like he's trying to pry a trophy out of its jaw.
"Soldiers! Unless you think that was the entire alien population of Matisse, we've got some more work to do!" Sgt. Harris breaks in. "Cranberry, gather your men. We need to plan our approach."
A holographic map of the local terrain appears on each of your HUDs.
"As you can see, in order to reach Agnes-2 to deploy the array, we need to get off this plateau and down to the lower plain. I see three ways we can do this -- first is the direct line to Agnes-2. That leads to a fairly steep cliff however. The ground does slope westward, and we can travel much more easily that way, but it will add several hours to the travel and risks arriving late. Finally, there are several narrow ravines that may get us down the plateau quicker, but our scans aren't detailed enough to tell us if any of these are navigable. What say you, soldiers?"

Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
"As getting the package on the site on time is high priority, I vote for straight line. With these suits, I doubt "fairly" steep cliff is that big of a problem. As long as we don't run into anything flying while descending. If I understood correctly, we know practically nothing of the ravines, so they can be just a bunch of dead ends and a total waste of time. Plus, I'd rather not ran into the rest of the population in a narrow ravine.
These are just my two cents, final call is yours, sarge."

Mason raises his hand.
"I vote for the easy slope. The equipment is critical for this mission, right? I think it would be better to get there late with fully working tech instead of getting there on time with a box of junk."

Cranberry ponders for a split second and makes a quick judgement:
"Let's take to the cliffs. It is also mission critical that we don't completely miss our rendeavous point because we're bushwacking along the scenic route."

While we're waiting for Eddie to chime in, everyone feel free to toss an NFA roll and let me know if you succeed.
Sgt. Harris seems unsurprised by Cranberry's response. "Straight down the gullet. Works for me. Get ready to move out, Charlie. We've got a mission to finish."

Eddie shrugs. "I don't see a whole lot of stripes on my shoulders. I'm here to do what Cranberry over there tells me to. If it were up to me, though, I'd send a small detachment to look for routes in the ravines while the main group heads toward the cliff."

Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
The squad begins to prepare for the direct route to Agnes-2. It's an estimated three hour slog according to the maps. That should give you another three hours for calibration, set-up, and SNAFUs.
The first of which rears its ugly head fairly quickly -- those of you who made your NFA rolls realize that the grav-sled won't successfully navigate a slope larger than 15 degrees... or possibly less considering the gravity field which is a little beyond the normal specs for the sled.
The array itself does have handles on the sides to carry if needed, but it will likely take at least two people to carry it in hi-G.

Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
You begin moving. The ground remains fairly flat with low rocks and scraggly bushes. The thick atmosphere seems to have more form and substance than the ground in this dream-like world. Thick clouds occasionally obscure your view, then open up to a thin fog of hundreds of shades of orange. Sluggish vortexes of vapor follow any rapid motion, and slowly you all begin to take on a ruddy tint from travelling through the vapors.
Occasionally, you hear the bellow of a distant alien, or see a singular form in the distance grazing, unaware or uncaring of your presence. Charlie Squad at this point is carrying on a relaxed banter, pointing out how easy this mission is...
"Hardly worth even dropping on the planet." Trooper Holmes mutters. "A bunch of dino wanna-bes that won't ever get off the ground let alone out of this soup. Where's the fun?"
"Isn't that what you said about those intelligent violet vines on Sargent-V?" Wallace replies. "What did we call them? Purple People Eaters or something?"
"Hey, how was I supposed to know they actually broadcast that false signal to attract rescue parties?"
"Exactly."

Re: The Sword of the Gods... a 3:16 PbF (Recruiting Closed)
About fifty minutes in, Massie reports from her point position.
"I think we're at the cliff. Not really sure though. Everything just disappears into a dense cloud that rolled in, but my suit's sonar isn't getting a return from ahead at all."
A new voice breaks in over your comms...
"-- Sword-1 to Charlie and Foxtrot elements. Sword-1 is registering massive life signs travelling perpendicular to your current route. We advise avoidance if possible. Estimated interception in four minutes. Will keep advised."
