This is the OT thread for my new (and probably quite insane) don't rest your head game.
Player list: shawnssica - Johnny Knuckles - Ink and Inclination SuperChutney - William Taylor - Memory and Madness JesterPoet - Leeroy Bannens - Sin and the Sinister
Leanne1672 karnaz WeTheMeeple
I intend to run each of you in a separate thread, as this game doesn't encourage a lot of cooperation, so while the plots will interact and overlap, there will also, doubtless, be a lot of times when you'll all be running around on your own. When you meet up, we'll move to one player's thread, hang out there until you part ways, then move back to your own threads. This thread will have announcements, banter, etc. I'll post links here to each thread when they're created (on the user names above).
As for characters, you can post something here, or if you'd like, GM me the character sheet - in case you want to have secrets from your fellow players (which I totally support. Seems like it should be completely expected in this environment/system). Once you've got your character together, I'll start your thread running from your answer to "what just happened to you?" GM any questions, comments, suggestions, etc that you don't want to share with your fellow players. General stuff, bring it on right here. I may post answers here if they seem like things everyone needs to know, though I'll keep the secrets I'm told.
As for the name, I welcome suggestions. Titles have never been my strong suit... labels and me.... well anyway. On with the show.
Also, please subscribe to this thread and your character thread, when it gets created.

My name is Shawn
And I am Johnny 'Knuckles'
What's been keeping me awake? The creaking walls of my shop (where I also live) in a warehouse. At first it was just noise but now its sounding more like voices.
What's on the surface? I used to be a punk rocker. I'm too old for the scene but now I run a tattoo shop in the warehouse district. I still get into fist fights all the time.
What lies beneath? Fear of failing, a big black ball of self doubt. My ex left me because I couldn't think any further than my shop and getting messed up.
Spoiler (mouseover to reveal): *something even Johnny doesn't know, but the GM does*
What just happened to you? I've noticed a hallway that didn't exist before in the warehouse. It shouldn't fit where it is - the rooms on either side should fill that space... And there's another door at the end but I haven't opened it. Last night a chest appeared, like a concert gear case, with my ex-gf dead inside it.
What is my path? Find out what happened to my ex and the other people who've been going missing.
Exhaustion talent: Physical intimidation
Madness talent: Tattoos
1-2 move across my skin into new shapes
3-4 stretch out from my body to aid me
5-6 leave my body completely and act while linked back to me
Fight: 2 Flight: 1
--- At least I think that's how this should look. Totally open for feedback: If I've stepped on the toes of anyone's character idea or you have an idea for something I might consider reworking, let me know.
In the past I've played lots of reluctant characters, monks who would prefer not to fight, barbarians who take little joy in combat but realize they excell at it (so just point them at the threat and stand clear) - this will be my first shot at someone who revels in mayhem even if it's just an outlet for his own shortcomings.

I'm still excited to play, so count me in! I'll be sending most of my stuff in privately, though.

Apparently, nobody else has gotten back to me yet. Very sad. I'll be sending another message to the missing players soon, and hopefully we can get on the road. If push comes to shove, we'll take our trip into the mad city just the two of you.

I didn't reply because I'm an alternate, and I suspect the other alternate feels the same way. I will happily take a spot. I just figured I was supposed to wait for the others.

I'm on it tonight. I'll have it up late tonight or tomorrow. New to the system but have the rules.

Change of plans, actually. I'm going to GM the character sheet. I think it might be fun to have it secret.
I think I'm ready to go! GM sent!

Alright then. As soon as I get SuperChutney's character, we'll get started. More accurately, we'll probably start on Wednesday, because I'll have some good free time then to pull everything together.
How exciting!

I'm making threads now. For folks who sent me secret character sheets, some bits of them will be posted in the first post of your thread. But that's ok, not all of them, and especially not the parts that should stay secret. I don't know if you guys will want to dig into each other's stories as we go, or wait until the game wraps up to see all the whacky hijinks that ensue, but whatever. Stuff will happen, and we'll see what kind of stuff.
Special request from the GM:
When your stats change (madness/discipline or exhaustion) please list them at the start of your next post. Makes it easier to keep track of for me. I'll probably also put them in my first post of any new page, just to keep track of them for myself without having to search back through the thread to find the last place they were posted.

Threads are up (see the OP). Please, let's get this party started.
I'll check in as regular as I can (the nice thing about working a desk job, right?), less on weekends. Each thread will run at your own pace, and I'll only be concerned about pacing when people run into each other.
This thread is still open for questions, and will be where I announce things for all players.
I look forward to seeing where this goes.
Don't forget to subscribe!

And the first die roll of the game yields a coin of despair. Woohoo! Cause to celebrate, right? Right? Know what I mean?
Fine, don't celebrate with me.
In the meantime, I want to see what I can do with the die roller.
6d6ic[4,3] = (6, 5, 1, 6, 6, 1) = -2 - invert 6d6c[4,3] = (4 2 1 5 1 5) = 0 - standard
I think one of those is the right way to do this, maybe? ETA: Nope, try again. 6d6ic[7,3] = (6, 6, 4, 1, 1, 3) = 3
ETA2: That's got it. If you want to roll all of your dice at once, you can use that formula, though you have to roll each pool separately. So you can do something like this: Discipline 3d6ic[7,3] = (1, 5, 5) = 1 Exhaustion 2d6ic[7,3] = (5, 4) = 0 Madness 1d6ic[7,3] = (1) = 1 Then sum the results to get your total successes. After that, I can still click to expand them to determine what dominates any particular roll.
Pretty nifty, huh?

Ha, yep. I forgot that we're all in different places in the same game and that the City is stacking its odds against all of us at the same time.

Sorry your GM has been slow to respond this week. I've been pretty sick, and mostly out of it. Should be able to think clearer this evening to put some real effort into it.

I've just realized... I post some very long blocks of text in some of these threads (mainly in shawn's. I'm not playing favorites, he just keeps running into art), which is loads of fun. I hope you guys enjoy reading them as much as I'm enjoying writing them.
Further, I just want to say, if I cross a line somewhere, let me know. I know this is an RPG that just begs to explore the darkness, but I don't really have any taboos about that. Just let me know if I get to close to someone's buttons, and I'll back off.
One other thing. Die roller changes... since I reported a bug that you could do something dumb, someone changed it to make the syntax different. If you still want to do the "roll all and count successes" trick, the new syntax is 5d6ic[3], like this 6d6ic[3] = (2, 2, 6, 2, 6, 6) = 3. You no longer need two numbers for the rolls to work. So, y'know, that's handy. Saves two keystrokes.

Cross whatever lines you feel will drive the story, sir. But you don't have to push the envelope; if you ever accidentally get too ooged out by the direction it's going, feel free to call 'nope' and rewind and revise.
