This is the OOC for a game recruited here- recruitment is closed, but follow the PBF Forum & Geeklist for more chances to join games.

Dungeon World is a world of fantastic adventure. A world of magic, gods, demons, Good and Evil. Brave heroes venture into the most dangerous corners of the land in search of gold and glory. You are those heroes. You go where others can't or won't. You conquer the unbeatable and laugh in the face of Death. There are monstrous things lurking in the world. Are you ready to face them?

That's pretty inspiring, hey? There are many talented dabblers in many fields, but you're destined for something greater. You're not just a thief or a wizard... You're THE Thief. THE Wizard. Perhaps The Wizard Who Was Devoured By The Fell Demon He Conjured, but that's still song-worthy.

A note on everything: I got rid of my old stern-faced avatar because it didn't suit me or my style. I'd much rather have fun than scowl! I'm going to be checking in regularly and I appreciate the same sort of communication. I promise to be your character's second-biggest fan, next to you.

A note on style and the fiction vs the rules: Speaking in the First Person would be great, I'll be addressing you by character name too. You don't have to carry a mace in real life but while you're here, you're hefting the thing.
Quote:
Podric:
I've got my ear pressed to the door, listening closely. "Quiet! I can't hear with you all shuffling around..." And when I hear the patrol pass by, I slam the door open and barge through.
versus
Quote:
Podric asks everyone to stay silent and waits by the door until he hears noise on the other side, then barges in.

As the GM, I'll have control of the world and won't necessarily say aloud what Moves I'm making use of. As players, just lead with what you're saying or doing or trying to do. If it triggers a Move and it's obvious to you or me or someone else, then we'll go to the dice.
Quote:
Me:
There's a half dozen guards in the hall - twice as many as you were expecting. They're startled by your entrance and jostle into each other in a attempt to turn around in the tight hallway.

Podric:
I Defy Danger by trying to push them down.

Me:
*shakes head*

Podric:
Instead of swinging my sword at them, I'll jam it between the legs of the nearest one and try to push him into the others.

Jaime: There we go. Now that's definitely Defying Danger... and we're right behind you if it works.

The core mechanic: If you roll for something, it's 2d6 + the most relevant Stat (e.g. Hacking and Slashing? That's STRength, of course). On a 10+, you succeed. On a 7-9 you succeed, but I have some say in the outcome - forcing your to accept a consequence or smaller success. On a 6 or less, it goes poorly indeed for you (it's up to me how, but you can what goes wrong).

Step 1 - Choosing classes:
Now the fun part!
Wizard, Cleric, Thief, Fighter - the original four, perfectly suited for new players.
Druid, Paladin, Bard, Ranger - sometimes a bit more complicated, e.g. managing the Ranger's companion or Druid shapeshifting.
There can only be one of each, but with 8 classes for 5 people, I'm sure everyone can find one archetype they want to explore.

Well, I'm certainly a new player. I'm most interested in the wizard (I had some fun ideas while reading the class description), followed by the thief if someone else has their heart set on wizard.

Re: [OOC] Dungeon World
Whoa, is this an open call? I'll play! (Too bad if it's not: I can't real tell from the OP)
I am a new player, but have been reading up on DW for months (as well as AW and MonsterOfTheWeek).
If there is already a Wizard and a Thief, I guess I'd go with a Fighter or Ranger.

Sorry Felix, I did the open call a few days ago back in the RPG>PlayByForum board! I can mark you down as a spare for this game if you'd like though, and bring you in if anyone needs ago step aside.

Re: [OOC] Dungeon World
By the way, does everyone have access to a copy of the class playsheets? If not I can get you a copy of whichever ones you need. When it comes to playing, I'll draft some plain-text ones and throw them up in a wikipage for edit-ability.

Yep- I'm all set with sheets. Should we go ahead and make our character generation choices and introduce our characters to the group?

Haha, you say that like it's a bad choice

I'm just waiting to check in with Nate UE about something. If you want to start thinking about race & what options you'll take at level one, go on ahead.

Re: [OOC] Dungeon World
Quick Sheet - Idea taken from PDF from Dungeon World Website. Apparently there are some pieces that changed with this edition of the game. As an example, I could not find anything about highlights, but that was one the sheet I found. Simply need a bond at this point I think.

----

Name: Mouse
Look: Sharp Eyes, Hooded Head, Lithe Body, Cloaked Outfit
Alignment: Neutral (When you avoid detection or infiltrate a location, mark XP)
Race: Female Halfling (When you attack with a ranged weapon, deal +1 damage)

STR: 9 Mod: 0 (Hack and Slash)
DEX: 17 Mod: +2 (Volley, Defy Danger)
CON: 13 Mod: +1 (Defend, Make a Saving Throw)
INT: 11 Mod: 0 (Spout Lore)
WIS: 8 Mod: -1 (Discern Realities)
CHA: 15 Mod: +1 (Parley)

Armor:
HP - Current: 19 Max: 19 Base: 6

Bonds:

XP:

Base Damage: 1d8

Gear - Load: 5
Adventure Gear (1 wt)
Dungeon Rations (1 wt, 5 uses)
Leather Armor (1 armor, 1 wt)
Rapier (close, precise, 1 weight)
3 Throwing Daggers (Near, Thrown, 0 wt.)
Oil of Tagit (3 uses, 0 et.)
10 gold

Starting Moves

Trap Expert (Dex)
When you spend a moment to survey a dangerous area, roll+Dex. On a 10+
hold 3. On a 7-9 hold 1. Spend your hold as you move through the area to ask
these questions:
•Is there a trap here and if so, what activates it?
•What does the trap do when activated?
•What else is hidden here?

Tricks of the Trade (Dex)
When you pick locks or pockets or disable traps, roll+Dex.
On a 10+, you do it, no problem.
On a 7-9, the GM will offer you a tough choice involving suspicion, danger, or cost.

Poisoner
You’ve mastered the care and use of a poison. Choose a poison from the equipment list; that poison is no longer Dangerous for you to use.

Oil of Tagit
Dangerous, Applied, 3 Gold, 0 Weight
The target falls into a light sleep

Flexible Morals
When someone tries to detect your alignment you can tell them any alignment
you like.

Backstab (Str)
When you attack a surprised or defenseless enemy, you can choose to deal your damage or roll+Str.
On a 10+ choose two
On a 7-9 choose one.

•You don’t get into melee with them
•You deal your damage+1d6
•You create an advantage, +1 forward to you or an ally acting on it
•Reduce their armor by 1 until they repair it

Modification
* Removed Highlights from sheet
* Changed HP to 19 from 7

My reading of the character creation section in the rules suggests that you add your full Con to your HP, not your Con modifier- is that right?

It does say score, so I guess that would be 19 starting hp instead of 7... nice ^_^

Load says 5+Str... So my max load is base plus the stat number or the stat modifier? Seems like the base is less important than the stat, in either case.

Re: [OOC] Dungeon World
I suppose that's a bit of a question here. I assumed the modifier simply because of the statement on page 12 (You won't actually use the raw scores much).

Also, in the same statement, it says "The modifiers are what you use when a move says +Dex or +Cha." If this were the case, then yes, it is the Str modifier that is used here.

Re: [OOC] Dungeon World
Xeno the wizard is a foreigner recently arrived from across the seas. His dark skin is covered with tattoos representing the different arcane skills he has mastered (creepy body), and he's clothed in the heavy, exotic-colored silks of his magical school ('leather' armor, strange robes).

Name: Xeno Xalthar
Look: Crazy eyes, wild hair, strange robes, creepy body
Alignment: Neutral (Discover something about a magical mystery.)
Race/Gender: Human Male (Choose one cleric spell, you can cast it as if it was a wizard spell.)

STR: 9 Mod: 0 (Hack and Slash)
DEX: 13 Mod: +1 (Volley, Defy Danger)
CON: 11 Mod: 0 (Defend, Make a Saving Throw)
INT: 17 Mod: +2 (Spout Lore)
WIS: 8 Mod: -1 (Discern Realities)
CHA: 15 Mod: +1 (Parley)

Armor: 1
HP - Current: 15 Max: 15

Bonds:

Shrike will play an important role in the events to come. I have foreseen it!
Lucia is woefully misinformed about the world; I will teach them all that I can.
_______________ is keeping an important secret from me.

XP:

Base Damage: 1d4

Gear - Load Current/Max:4/5

Leather Armor (1 armor, 1 wt)
Dagger (1 weight)
Healing Potion
Dungeon Rations (1 wt)
Spellbook (1 wt- the tattoo equipment needed to mark skin with newly learned spells) (Contact Spirits, Invisibility, Magic Missile, Cause Fear (Cleric spell as human wizard))

(edit- added armor, question mark indicating I don't know what my max load is supposed to be, added Bonds)

Correct: this is one exception to the rule. Add your full CON to get your HP

Gear - just base+ STR mod (like everything else)

Base 5+ STR 0 = 5. Thay means you can take pretty much whatever you like: spell book, food, armor, books/potions or weapons, plus the potion/antitoxin freebie.

I really like the direction you took with your spellbook - sort of like Memento. I don't know if you were peeking at my DRYH game - my character's creepy power is his tattoos. Why did Xeno start using tattoos instead of a traditional spellbook?
