Jak, Twi'lek pilot

Jak always felt the need to live up to his parent's expectations. However, he was never close to his father, because his father was off-world for months at a time as an interstellar pilot. When Jak was a teen, his father took a job he never returned from. Looking back at his childhood, Jak has come to suspect that his father wasn't always piloting for legitimate businesses.

Jak developed into a fairly good planetary pilot himself, but fell in with a gang of petty thieves, piloting the getaway vehicle for smash-and-grab jobs. Once while Jak was waiting in the speeder for his co-conspirators to grab the goods, he saw them get caught in the act. In a moment of cowardice, he simply took off.

With the law and the rest of his gang after him, he left Ryloth and managed to make his way as pilot both on-planet and in space.

He picked up a few small-time piloting jobs, but looking for something with a bigger pay-off, he headed for The Wheel. Not quite finding any work, he met Astarii Menaraev. While exchanging stories they noticed their similar situations.

Later, an old Twi'lek smuggler, Na'sara, pulled Jak aside and spoke to him in private. Na'sara recognized Jak as the son of Dak and informed him that Dak's E-9 Explorer had been docked at The Wheel for nearly a year. Na'sara hadn't seen Dak for a long time and suspected he got into some trouble. Na'sara helped Jak forge some documents and along with the family resemblance, Jak managed to take possession of the light freighter.

Now Jak was in possession of a ship, but owed old Na'sara a favour. Also, he needed to impersonate his father Dak to dock or land the ship at almost any space port.

Next Jak and his new friend Astarii put together a smuggling crew. They quickly find Satlimar Tem, Ishmael Cindar, CH-1, and Bonn Marmot. However, they quickly discover that agreeing on a name for the new ship was not so easy....

Astarii "All-Star" Menaraev - Explorer: Archaeologist

The nickname "All-Star" was given as the butt end of a joke earlier in Astarii's career. After being asked, with very novice piloting skills, to punch in travel coordinates left us in an area of space where he and his crew were less than welcome to be at the time. The nickname stuck and he decided to embrace it rather than fight it.

Born in Ord Cantrell, but moving in his early teens to where the work and better education was in Ord Mantell, Astarii found a passion for understanding different species, civilizations, and gaining an appreciation for things from the past. He and his crew would often be given jobs that would have them travel to ruins, mostly for personal collectors to enhance the atmosphere of their homes - but occasionally for museums and academic pursuits.

Recently, he and his previous crew were sent to assist on retrieving some relics from Ruusan. When they arrived, the place was already cleared, they simply needed to carefully package and deliver some relics back to the Lady Fate Casino on Ord Mantell, some items of interest for their relic collection. Astarii was not familiar with any of the relics or symbols he was helping to pack up. (He was certainly intrigued by what they were packing up.) It was supposed to be a simple pick up and return job, but when they made a stop on the way back for supplies at The Wheel, Astarii left the ship for some relaxation in a cantina, only to return to find the ship being guarded by Imperial forces and his crew in restraints being led into a Lambda-class shuttle...

Not wanting to join them, he walked away and kept his mouth shut. He would occasionally inquire about the Imperial ship and asked if anyone else thought it odd... but nobody knew anything of it. His guess is his old team never let on that there was another crew member not there... a guilt Astarii will have to deal with. Since then, he has never heard from any of them, but longs for a chance to learn more of the ancient relics he only got a chance to see so briefly. The only others who knew anything of the ship and its job was the relic curator and casino owner who paid for the job.

Having no current work, and no ship, his situation was quickly remedied upon meeting Jak. Jak invited Astarii to join his crew... he fit in well with the travel and his need to explore.

Ishmael Cindar, Bounty Hunter Gadgeteer

Ishmael, Ish for short, was born on Corellia, nearer to galactic core than where he currently resides. Didn't seem born for greatness, nor did he really want to. All he wanted to do once he left his technical studies was to do honest work, to start a workshop and make enough money to live comfortably. He and a friend from school pooled their resources, bought a small shop near the space port and got to work. Together, they had the skills, though his companion was far better. Ishmael was mostly the assistant, doing what he was told, and that was fine with him. He knew he was better at the business side anyway.

After a few years, they'd made a name for themselves. They were hired by quite a few companies around the spaceport, things seemed to be looking up. They made investment for larger workspace, more and more complex tools. One of the companies even put them on retainer, making them main repair crew for a big shuttle group. They sunk a lot of investments and time in...But the buyer had gotten cold feet...

Instead of defaulting on the contract and having to pay damages, he took the company in a strangehold. Not paying, no matter how many times they urged him, keeping on airs...Eventually, their own creditors came knocking, their shop closed. Ishmael's co-worker couldn't handle it. He threw himself from the walkway...

Their debtor figured that would be the end of it, but not to Ishmael. It only made him more focused on getting even. Ish took the man to court, sued him for all he had. But when the verdict came in, the man was nowhere to be found. He'd sold his assets and left the planet, a step ahead of law enforcement. But he wasn't going to get away. Ishmael sold what little he had left, built from scrap what he couldn't afford. The court named him officer of the court, given the right to arrest the debtor and bring him to court, to seize his assets as compensation for damages...

That was the start, the first one. The first one he tracked down. Today, some might call him a glorified repo-man, but he knows that for every sob story they tell him, for every debt they say that is outrageous, there's a wealth of people behind that debt, people who need that money too. He's always taken his bounties in alive...And he's proud of that. Still, money's getting tight...Perhaps he should look into another, more dangerous bounty...Bills need to be paid, after all...

Backstory:

Bonn was a mechanic/speeder racer that always felt way more at home with mechanical constructs then biological creatures. One day, a prince, noticing her skill on the amatuer speeder circuit, brought his overpriced speeder to her for modifications. WHile visiting with her, he became smitten. He invited her to be his date to his uncle duke's birthday. WHile she would normally pass, her father encouraged her to go.

WHile at the party, she wandered around without paying much attention to the royal family (she's brazen, so she wasn't just hiding out in the corner, Bonn just doesn't care much about royalty). She eventually came across a bartender, and was instantly attracted.

The Prince found out, and spurned by his unrequited love, made sure the bartender was sent off to work (enslaved) on a Hutt pleasure barge. He then trashed Bonn's reputation, saying that she was lousy in bed, and that her work on his speeder was defective. While Corellians hold their personal honor with huge regard, the attack on her mechanic ability was a much bigger slight to her.

So now, Bonn has decided to search out her bartender boyfriend, and exact revenge on the cowardly Prince.

Tellarn was born to a small noble family. He was raised in his father's shadow, always forced to study to become what his father wanted, a doctor. Of course, as many of these stories go, Tellarn was not satisfied with this life. He wanted to be free to choose his own path. What is strange is the fact that he likes the profession his father had set before him. His studies were earnest and he completed his training with a smile on his face and left home with all the knowledge the universities could hand him.

He hasn't spoken to his family since that day. Hopping aboard a tramp freighter, he sold his services for passage across the stars. he gained practical knowledge of many species, and saw sights he would never see at a sterile hospital working within the core worlds. Of course, he also found out that life outside the core was much more... interesting.

Tellarn found himself trying to patch up a young man after a brutal knife fight. He didn't know much about what happened at this time, only that the ship's captain asked him to do all that he could to help him. The captain had been a bit nervous at the time, but all Tellarn could see was the opportunity to help someone. The damage was too severe. The young man died.

Rather too quickly, the captain lay at the ground with a hole through his chest and Tellarn was running for his life. He held the captain's blaster as he made his way through the narrow alleys trying to avoid the mobsters chasing him. He charmed his way into a local shop and was able to hide until they disappeared. Unfortunately, the local crime boss would not forget the man who was unable to save his son, and he put a price on Tellarn's head.

Tellarn continues to sell his services to those who will give him passage, but he knows that one day the bounty may just catch up with him. Still, better to be free for a while than tied down to a single spot, right?
