The King in Yellow, the Yellow Sign and Carcosa all seem to be sliding into the gaming world behind Cthulhu so, whilst not as prolific and omnipresent as the old tentacle faced one, there's a subtle and disturbing undercurrent of them.

Because I began a King in Yellow wiki site nearly 20 years ago, and there've been increasingly more and more games that tap into those stories, I'm trying to collect together a list of those games. If nothing else it will help fans of the fiction find games they might get a kick out of.

I'm looking initially at card games and board games, as they'll likely slip under my radar more than the appearances in RPGs but, frankly, if the King in Yellow or Carcosa gets name dropped in a video game that's awesome too.

My initial focus has been those games/expansions/scenarios that focus on the King in Yellow, but I will be adding games that list the King in Yellow as a potential antagonist (in which case I'll probably go into a bit more detail about what makes that entry on the List fit the bill).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions for games to add!

A tile-laying game that's based on Carcasonne, for the reason that the city of Carcosa from the King in Yellow stories is supposedly based on the real world city of Carcasonne. This game adds a few new twists (there's a lovely interview somewhere that points out how the game has been created in such a way to mirror the growing suspense and fear of half-glimpsed figures that you might get from a horror film).

A role playing game based on the original short stories from The King in Yellow. It is inspired by those stories but then seems to mix it up with vampires, gargoyles and alternative timelines (that last one, at least, is true to one of the original stories).

A game that is almost entirely based around the mythos of The King in Yellow but, because the PCs are patients in an asylum receiving treatment for amnesia, it's not at all obvious to the players. For what it's worth this game lends itself to some bizarre and surreal adventures through dreams.

Adding madness and lunatic mobs to your Arkham Horror game as a performance of the play The King in Yellow comes to Arkham. Noteworthy that the King in Yellow can be the herald of any Ancient One, not just Hastur (as it is in practically all the associated fiction).

An awesome King in Yellow inspired campaign, for Call of Cthulhu, set in the 1920s and mostly in and around London. Presents a variety of ways to encounter the mythos and really feels true to the original stories.

A not as impressive King in Yellow campaign for Call of Cthulhu, spread out over history and into a dark future. Really suffers in comparison to Tatters of the King and to the Curse of the Yellow Sign trilogy, with which it shares much in common (scenarios set in different time periods, including a final scenario set in deep space).

Part one of the history spanning King in Yellow trilogy. Players are Nazi officers exploring a recently unearthed tomb. As such it has a vaguely Indiana Jones feel to it, but with the players playing Nazis (even those with secrets that might make them less popular amongst their peers), you never quite feel like you're heroes. That's possibly true of all three parts of the trilogy, but in this part you're playing some of history's most reviled villains.

Part two of the history spanning King in Yellow trilogy. Players are actors rehearsing a performance of the play. A really strong scenario that feels dark and disturbing (my personal favourite of the three parts as, being set at the turn of the century it's more relatable, but the rating system suggests that this wasn't as popular with the majority of reviewers). To me it felt like a cross between a David Lynch film and the Shining, which is no bad thing in my book.

Part three of the history spanning King in Yellow trilogy. Players are amnesiacs that awaken on a spacecraft, klaxons blaring, to find the scene of a massacre all around them. Disturbing, and an interesting enough story, but the version I had access to had missing pages. If the first Act was a twisted take on Indiana Jones, and the second Act played off The Shining, then this final part feels like Event Horizon. Deep space horror.

This looks like it belongs here. I got a pre-production collectors box edition from the designer and it's fantastic. Basically a noir detective type game trying to solve murders with a delicate touch of lovecraft mythos. It's not overt like the glut of Cthulhu based games but subtle and genuinely unnerving. The mythos hangs in the air like a spectre rather than being a defined enemy with hit points and a goal.

He's selling them on his etsy account here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/548253763/arkham-noir-collec... but they're due to release around Essen, I believe he said.
