There are a number of projects out there to read (and review) the entire run of several important role playing hobby magazines (or other collections). This geeklist is an attempt to collect pointers to those projects.

Other projects on RPGNet work on reading a single book cover to cover. I feel these don't belong here, although a case could be made for each of the Monstrous Manual supplements and annuals from AD&D 2nd Edition.

If you find a read-and-review project I've missed, or are inspired to start one of your own, please add it to this list - your fellow gamers will thank you!

Ownership of the first 250 issues of Dragon (and also The Strategic Review) on CD-ROM is probably a requirement for this project.

First hosted at RPGNet, mirrored at EnWorld, user (un)reason started this project at the end of Mar 2008, and is still going (issue 170 as of Feb 2010)

Another project, also at EnWorld, ran from issue 14 through 27 (Jun 2007 through Sep 2007)

Hosted at RPGNet, user hida_jiremi was inspired by a Dragon project to create one reading through all the Dungeon magazines. They started with issue 1 in Apr 2008 and are still going (issue 14 as of Feb 2010)

Another situation where the first 90 or so issues were available on a DVD.

User Private Eye started this project with issue 1 in Jul 2008, and made it through issue 35 in Aug 2009. This project is currently on hiatus.

More closely related to the Dungeon project than any other, user demiurge1138 went through the Dungeon Crawl Classics, from #0 through #51 (Dec 2008 to Sep 2009). I assume this project continues - the most recent release from Goodman Games is #63 as of Feb 2010.

Announcing my own version of this project. Thanks to a recent purchase of issue #7 in PDF from KenzerCo, I now own every issue of this gaming magazine. The magazine went on permanent hiatus after issue #53.

User Thomcat will read through each issue of this magazine and give a thorough review of RPG content. This project started in Feb 2010 and is ongoing.

Here are links to each of the reviews so far.

Often referred to as the "best snapshot of the gaming industry" during the Steve Jackson years, I'll take this from the very beginning with Metagaming to issue 88 and throw in the six issues of Fantasy Gamer and the five issues of VIP of Gaming along the way.

Should keep me busy for a while.

Edit: Finally got the first one done. These take a bit more work than what I expected!

Edit 2: Iron Reviewer to the rescue! This should force me to do these a bit more regularly. Hoping for one a month.

Metagaming issues

Stalwart review machine bryce0lynch has produced a series of reviews of Dungeon magazine adventures. Here's a list of links to them which I'll try to keep updated...

#1 A pretty bad debut issue
#2 Story games and Classical Greek Mythology
#3 I thought my joke was funny ...
#4 An issue with almost no redeeming qualities
#5 Maybe I misjudged Oriental Adventures ...
#6 Oh sucky adventures ... where art thou? Oh ... right in front of me.
#7 Pigstye Indiana Beet Fest - Not to be missed.
#8 I read that OA adventure 3 times and still can't describe it
#9 OA brings the charm and staves off utter despair just a little longer
#10 Well, at least there was one good adventure this time ...
#11 Mass combat with 0-levels gets a big THUMBS UP from me
#12 Who's up for a game of 'Lick the Toad'?
#13 Better than the usual Dungeon fare
#14 Something to steal from
#15 Willie Walsh writes something that doesn't suck!
#16 One of the better issues with lots to steal from.
#17 Forced adventure is forced
#18 Why did it take this long for someone to do a 'Littles' adventure?
#19 Let's go half-way! Hey hey hey let's do half the way. We can make a better way.
#20 Is 'nordic gothic' a real thing?
#21 Ghost pirates in the sky!
#22 John Terra, worst designer of all time or just a terrible person with no redeeming qualities?
#23 Vikings & Tools & Chaos Pirates!
#24 Where's Sidney Poitier?
#25 The tipping point for D&D?
#26 Nice to steal from, if not to run
#27 Liberating ideas for fun & ... Profit?
#28 Woahhh! An almost decent issue!
#29 The best Dungeon Magazine adventure so far! No, I'm being serious! I promise! And it's from Willie Walsh! I know, right?!?!?!
#30 The last adventure in this issue gets a 10 from me. It feels EPIC, and yet unforced.
#31 Nice undead portrayl
#32 A pretty bad showing after a few good issues
#33 A poor showing from Japan. (Get it?! Get it?! World Cup 2014!)
#34 Wow. Good Nazi's. Just .... WoW!
#35 Why. Only Wolfgang Bauer saves this from total train-wreck status
#36 Bland, when compared to chicken tenders
#37 More than slightly above average!
#38 D&D for loot, D&D for plot, D&D for [insert style here]
#39 Great Adventure! too bad you never wrote nothing else ...
#40 I prefer my 40's in Mickey's Big Mouth form
#41 Nice ideas not taken taken far enough, at all ...
#42 At least one good adventure, and several decent ideas
#43 I don't see how it's possible to run Into the Silver Realm
#44 City games: the hardest to run and also the most rewarding
#45 1, 2, 3, 4, I declare .... that this issue of Dungeon is NOT a complete waste of your time, at least if you already own it
#46 Folklore & Good Imagery with a Nice Idea to boot!
#47 Just when you think Dungeon couldn't get any worse ...
#48 A lowpoint in Dungeon Magazines run.
#49 A cover painting of a poisoned flute? Oh, this should be gooooood ...
#50 This is not the worst edition of Dungeon ever published
#51 This is it. The edition of Dungeon that killed good design
#52 Soul-draining, and not in a good way
#53 Ideas worth saving, if not adventures
#54 Waiting for Godot ... the AD&D Adventure

The Epitaph published from 2000 to 2003 in print format. Pinnacle declared it to be a magazine and it did have some hallmarks of the magazine format, but the physical quality made it much more like a sourcebook.

Issue 1 (March 2000)
Issue 2 (July 2000)
Issue 3 (April 2001
Issue 4 (February 2003)

Issue 4 (at least) was available electronically first and the print edition was made available later.
