Similar to Kickstarter and Indiegogo, Patronage is another source of crowd sourced funding.

In this method, the creator solicits directly to fans without going to a third party. The product is scheduled to come out regardless of the amount of money collected, but unique rewards are often offered to patrons.

In 2008, Wolfgang Baur won the Diana Jones Award for his Open Design patronage system.

John's 80's Mech RPG Patronage Program

Quote:
In the middle of the 30th Century, the discovery of interstellar travel allowed mankind to spread its reach to the stars.
At the end of the 40th Century, mankind had its first contact with alien life.
By the beginning of the 50th Century, mankind was an endangered species.
— The Rise and Fall of Humanity, Ubame Vills

JOHN'S 80'S MECH RPG is a a patronage project inspired by a request for "a gritty '80's mech RPG in the John Wick style."

How could I turn down such an intriguing request?

Midgard Campaign Setting

Quote:
The fires of creation burn hot in the world of Midgard: Be part of this rare opportunity to design a published campaign setting! Your co-authors in this endeavor will be Wolfgang Baur, Jeff Grubb, and Brandon Hodge.

Patrons of the Midgard project get behind-the-scenes access and input into the creation of Midgard’s seven regions. Add your original ideas, or even elements of your own home campaign: NPCs, magic items, heroes, villains, towns, cities — even whole pantheons!

Along the way, Wolfgang will host regular live online chats for patrons and designers. (Plus other fun surprises!) The finished setting book will be available to patrons as a signed, limited-edition hardcover, and to the public as a softcover. Among other perks, patrons will also receive the Worldbuilder’s Handbook: a collection of worldbuilding essays from Baur, Grubb, and others.

Dark Roads and Golden Hells

Quote:
Discover danger and surreal wonder beyond the mortal realm! Travel the misty Niflheim Road and visit the sable court of the shadow fey, barter for lost souls in the infernal glory of Mammon’s Golden Court; dodge grinding cogs to question clockwork oracles on the Gear Plane, or delve after forbidden lore in the shifting tesseract-realm of the derro Mother of Madness. Whether your cosmology is shaped like a wheel, a spindle, or a million shifting spheres, here you’ll find exciting and flavorful locations to insert into your campaign.

Dark Roads and Golden Hells is a chance to explore the outer planes of Midgard in the mind-expanding style of Planescape and Beyond Countless Doorways. In Creation’s firmament, on the ragged bleeding edge of reality, things are rarely simple or easily understood: Lost Possibilities and Might Have Beens battle with incarnate Ideas across landscapes like Escher drawings; Fear can be worn as a cloak, Destiny can be hammered into swords, and Hope springs eternal from the footfalls of angels. Horizon’s warp to the will of gods and powerful mortals, you can hold infinity in the palm of your hand… and see yourself peering out of it.

Patreon: Ben is creating small weird games
because the world should be better, stranger, and more interesting

Ben's page on Patreon

Quote:
I write games that, when you play them, make you a better person. I write games that you can play by yourself when no one is watching, games that you can play with friends in the cracks of your time, games you can play with the flowers in your yard, games that take only a moment of your time, games that you never stop playing for the rest of your life.

I have always produced small, weird, experimental games, but the bulk of my work has tended to run towards larger projects that are more commercially viable. I would like to be able to spend more time polishing and releasing my experimental games, and the money from this Patreon will help me do that, buying not only more of my time, but also allowing me to hire artists and graphic designers and pay them a fair wage for their work.

It is ideologically important to me that all my work be available and accessible. Because of this, I don't charge money for the electronic versions any of my game work, small or large, though I do request donations on a sliding scale to allow those that can pay to do so. All games produced for this Patreon (with the possible exception of one private, personal game) will be available for free or pay-what-you-like-even-$0, just like all my other work.

To give you an idea of the sort of games I'm producing, check out Beloved, &c Beatrice &c, and clover.

I plan on releasing these games once every one or two months. To begin with, though, there will be a faster rate of releases, because I have a number of projects I have had to backburner for economic reasons that I'd like to be able to release. I will try to keep releases less frequent than one per calendar month.

Patreon follows a different concept than Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Ulule etc. It is not modeled on funding a single project, but suporting regular content creators (e.g. bloggers or webcomic artists): Patrons agree to give content creators a tip of a given amount, each time they create new content. You can set a monthly maximum, and creators can offer certain rewards ("patron packages" seems to be the name at Patreon).

I create games that mean something. You can check out my site at Buried Without Ceremony. There's a page for all the little games and experiments that I'm creating, which is what I'm coming to Patreon for support with.

Designing games is my calling. While my major publishing projects are usually for-profit (Monsterhearts, Ribbon Drive, The Quiet Year, etc), I also do a great deal of work without attaching a price tag to it.

I orchestrate the Story Games Secret Santa, I ran Charity Love Letter which raised $1325 for charity, I contributed content to Bundle of Holding which raised $2613 for charity, I run a Pay With Good Deeds program, am a coordinator for Terminal City Story Games, and am the coordinator of the annual Game Chef game design competition.

And I design little games and thought experiments that I release for free. Hacks of existing games, micro-games, new takes on old concepts, alternate-reality play-as-you-live-your-life thinking games, Twine experiments, and more. I'd like your patronage to keep tinkering. The easier it is to design without having to think about profitability (the rent doesn't pay itself), the more opportunity I have to make scrappy things that do scrappy things.

If you support me through Patreon, your dollars will come in every time I release a little game or experiment. But it'll go toward freeing up my time and energy for all those freely-given projects: the community-building events, the charity drives, more little games, and everything else I am able to do when I'm not scrambling to make rent.

My name's Topher and I like to write material for tabletop roleplaying games. You may have seen my mini-game Apotheosis of the Rose: Princess Drive, or some of the fan-created skins I've written for Joe McDaldno's awesome game Monsterhearts. I consider myself to be fairly progressive, and that means I feel like I have a responsibility to be inclusive in the material I create. Gaming is not always a very safe or welcoming place for women, people of color, LGBT folks, or other minorities, and I try to do my part to counteract that as much as I can. I want the stuff I write to make you feel welcome as a gamer!

So what will I be doing here? More of the same stuff I already do. More Monsterhearts skins, nicely edited and ready for playtesting in your game. More little Fate or FAE or Cortex Plus hacks. More goodies for Princess Drive. Other stuff as I get inspired.

I'm also thinking that I may release chunks of a whole new game as I write it. Henshin! The Tokusatsu Roleplaying Game is about emulating live-action Japanese TV superheroes, which is...pretty niche, I'll admit. I don't know if the audience is big enough to pull off a kickstarter for it. But maybe if I release it in pieces as I write it, it will work out. We'll see!

I will probably be aiming to release one new "thing" - either a complete small thing like a new skin, or a chunk of a bigger project - every week or two, so keep that in mind as you decide what you might want to pledge.

Paul Vorvick is creating Satire Games:
Vorvick's Patreon Page wrote:
Hi! I'm Paul Vorvick, and I make satire games.

Games aren't just usable for entertainment. They can provoke thought, start discussions, and make changes in the world. But this can only happen if the games come with their own messages and meaningful design. My goal is to make games that include precisely those elements.

So what's a satire game? It's a game that points out some issue in our world and asks us to examine it. But it's more than that as well. It's a game that implies its message rather than stating it. It's a game that leads its players along a path of discovery, where they can learn about what is wrong in the world and think of how to fix it. It's a game which has a hidden, deeper meaning, behind whatever it is you play.

Satire games assume that their audience wants to critically examine the issues in the world, and provides a stepping stone on that path. Playing a satire game allows a group to get together and discuss exactly what it is that we want. It gives a lens through which to view a problem, and leaves the question open about how to solve it. Satire games have similarities with social good games, but from the opposite angle. Most social good games tell you the problem and answer at the same time. Satire games raise the issue and then ask the audience to discuss with each other.

Creating games is difficult. A lot of resources go into making something accessible and meaningful. Your support will help with costs in art, music, coding, and other expenses that are necessary to create the games. In addition, your support will give me personally the freedom to pursue more game design, and some strong feedback about the topics of games I make.

I'm planning to distribute my games through Creative Commons licensing so that I don't have to restrict access to them. I want everyone to play, so that everyone can start sharing in the experience. Getting support from my patrons allows me to distribute games freely, while being able to support myself at the same time.

If you'd like to check out my existing games, you can do so here:
www.vorvick.net

Thanks for reading, and thank you for your support!

I make games because I like to do my part in making the world a better place, even if it's just a little bit. I write because I hope someone will find their day a little better, a little less stressful, because I've created something entertaining.

I also think everyone deserves to have that. My company, Fünhaver Games, is devoted to creating an inclusive, welcoming gaming hobby. I truly think fantasy belongs to everyone, and everyone deserves to be a funhaver.

With Patreon, I'll be creating and experimenting more with RPGs and other games. That will include full games like Last Stand and Brighter Than The Sun, small party games like Wizard Council and No Laugh Dungeon Crawl, as well as helping others enter the industry. I spend a lot of my time helping other people break into publishing and add their voice to the hobby, and I want to keep doing that as long as I can.

Thanks to your support, I'll be able to continue creating games. I'll be able to continue hiring artists to draw folks who don't see a lot of representation in RPGs, and I'll be able to continue helping new writers get established in the industry. Hopefully I'll even be able to help people have a little fun.

My name's Paul Stefko, and I make games. Mostly, I design tabletop roleplaying games, although I am interested in board games, card games...everything! I publish my games under the Nothing Ventured Games imprint, including my first complete RPG, Full Moon, the RPG of life on the lunar frontier.

Here on Patreon, I'm hoping to be able to publish smaller games and game supplements that might not be suitable for a major release through more traditional channels. This would include hacks of other games that are available through various open licenses (or soon will be), like Fate, GUMSHOE, and DramaSystem. It might also be things that are completely my own creation, but maybe are a little funky, fill a very small niche, or are just weird. An example of this would be my one-on-one story game Revenant, which would have been a perfect thing to release here if Patreon had been around when I made it.

I would shoot to produce content at least once a month, although since these would be side projects, the work would be done around other writing commitments, not to mention real life. Of course, since you only pay when I produce, it should all work out in the end.

Please consider becoming a patron!

The Misdirected Mark Podcast was started as a place for my compatriot, Mark Knapik, and I, Chris Sniezak, to give some advice about game mastering to the table top role playing game community at large. The show has evolved since then and now we cover table top gaming news, do interviews with game designers and personalities surrounding the hobby, and even have an ongoing story, all while still trying to give some advice on game mastering. Unfortunately hosting, domain names, traveling to cover events, and upgrading our equipment so we can produce a better show isn't cheap. I thought about Kickstarter but the Patreon format seems like a better solution to help us keep the show going and make it even better in the future. So that's why I'm coming to you folks out there in listener land to see if you would be willing to help us.

I release a show every week between 10 pm Wednesday and 2 am Thursday EST and I'm not asking for much if you're willing to donate. Just twenty five cents a show and once we get going I'll be offering some higher level rewards for those who've been donating all along like dice, t-shirts, running online games for you, and having some of the patrons come onto the show. Thank you for taking the time to read this and an even bigger thank you if you help support us.

Epidiah Ravachol is creating the Words Without Master, an Adventure Fiction and Gaming magazine:
Epidiah's Patreon Page wrote:
With the job market flooded with superheroes and messiahs, it's hard times for the lowly adventurer. It seems like if your tale doesn't concern the fate of the known world at the very least, no one's interested in hearing it. The level of respect for the profession is so low that people nowadays believe rogue is just another word for thief.

Together, my sisters- and brothers-in-arms, we can change this! We can answer the call and help the wayfarers, the rovers, the scapegraces, the rogues--and yes, even the sorcerers--help raise them back up to their once lofty positions as protagonists of our favorite fictions.

Words Without Master is an adventure fiction and gaming magazine featuring sword & sorcery short fiction and games from Epidiah Ravachol and many others. A magazine that will grow in size and content as its patron horde grows in number.

What Is Eppy's Plan?

Each month or so, I’ll build a new issue starting with a tale or game from me.

As more money becomes available, I will use it to:

*Purchase new fiction, articles & game material from other authors;
*Hire artists to illustrate the stories & articles;
*Buy color cover art;
*Hire graphic designers;
*And hire proofreaders & editors to keep everything on the up and up.
*When I feel we have a satisfying amount of material, I will publish the magazine in a multiple electronic formats.This happens when it happens;
But never more than once a month.

What Are Eppy's Goals?

*To eventually publish monthly;
*To publish enough fiction, games & related articles to last you a whole month;
*To publish a magazine the gods themselves would stock in their waiting room;
*To feature genres beyond sword & sorcery in special seasonal issues;
*To amass an army of patrons vast enough to pay my contributors a rate worthy of their works;
*And to seriously pay my contributors a highly competitive rate.

Brent P. Newhall is creating Tabletop Games:
Newhall's Patreon Page wrote:
I'm the designer of Dungeon Raiders, Zeppelins vs. Pterodactyls, and 8 other tabletop games. I've played over 50 tabletop games.

I have lots of game ideas, and I often publish a new game every couple of months. Support me, and you'll get them before anybody else.

What are some of the games I'm working on (subject to change)?

*Airship Racers will be a racing game using cards, where the players race turbo-powered airships around floating earthmotes and through canyons, dodging massive balloon ships and dragons. Engage boosters to increase the size of the die you roll for bursts of speed, but make sure you don't slam into obstacles.
*A Fantastic Journey to Mars will be a steampunk role-playing game similar in structure to DROP. Play Victorian archetypes (bright-eyed scientist, hard-nosed industrialist, nosy reporter, emotional artist, practical engineer, or troublesome kid) on their way to Mars, which will undoubtedly surprise them.
*Kaze will be a tabletop role-playing game that emulates the beautiful films of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. You will control a set of strong male and female characters in a fantasy world or alternate history who face challenges with a pure heart and a desire for peace. Sort of an anti-D&D.
*The Mad Max Fiasco playset will be a Fiasco playset set in the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max.
*Orwell's Animal Fiasco really needs a better name, and will be a Fiasco playset in the Orwellian world of Animal Farm.
*Sailors of the Blackheart Maelstrom will be a board game of competitive resource collection with a shared resource that must be used cooperatively. The players are crew on a carrier that's sent into a giant swirling maelstrom in space to collect scientific specimens. Each player controls a skiff that explores the (re-configurable) board and can collect specimens while the carrier stays on the border. You can call the carrier into the maelstrom to deposit your specimens, but if the carrier spends too much time in the maelstrom, it will explode.
*Serial Experiment Jump will be an experiment in story-telling and multiple timelines. The players play an existing set of characters who troubleshoot problems across time (think of a cross between Doctor Who, Men in Black, and Hellboy). Game sessions will be recorded, and each will create its own timeline that will inspire new scenarios, creating a branching tree of timelines and problems to deal with.

What are some of the games I've already released?
*3 Dice Dungeon is a solitaire dungeon-crawling dice game that uses a single six-sided die.
*DROP is a story-writing game in which you play the crew of a starship that arrives at a planet. You must drop to the surface, explore a big structure, then run like hell. Designed as a one-shot game, perfect for introducing others to role-playing.
*Dungeon Raiders is a retroclone of original D&D, condensed down into only a few pages of rules.
*Tabletop Conquest is a solitaire war game that uses a single six-sided die. Direct an army of infantry, archers, and knights across an ever-expanding land, searching for the army at its capital.
*Zeppelins vs. Pterodactyls is a board game of zeppelins cruising over a savage lost world, descending to the jungle to collect fabulous golden treasures while fighting off rampaging dinosaurs. Plus, the modular board game gives you a new game every session.

Ed Healy is hosting a patronage project on his Gamerati website. Here is a link to the project page: GenCon 2013 Photos and Videos

Gamerati Website wrote:
We were planning to run a Kickstarter campaign to help us with some pre-Gen Con equipment upgrades, but Kickstarter would not let us offer the awesome Swag Bag of products, below. So, we’ve decided to do what any gamer does when the BBEG is not cooperating… improvise!
Here’s the video we’d made. It’s still applicable, even though it’ll never grace the Kickstarter site.

Not strictly a patronage project, since Konrad Lischka and Tom Hillenbrand, the people behind the campaign, are using a German crowdfunding platform, Startnext.de. (But we do not seem to have an appropriate geeklist for that - Crowdfunding in Germany - the complete list concentrates on board games.)

Startnext: Drachenväter

Drachenväter. Die Geschichte des Rollenspiels und die Geburt der virtuellen Welt
Deadline: 15th of December 2013
Publisher: self-published
Non-fiction, heavily illustrated coffee table book about the "cultural history of RPGs" (tabletop to MMORPG, as far as I understand it).
108 supporters (as of Oct 15th), 4.516 of a 10.000 Euro goal
Release scheduled for spring 2014
http://www.startnext.de/drachenvaeter
http://drachenvaeter.org/

Most of the book is already written, crowdfunding should pay for layout and printing costs. Konrad Lischka and Tom Hillenbrand are journalists and long-time roleplayers. The book will not be scholarly.

Not strictly a patronage project, since Markus Leupold-Löwenthal, the creator, is using a German crowdfunding platform, Startnext.de. (But we do not seem to have an appropriate geeklist for that - Crowdfunding in Germany - the complete list concentrates on board games. I have contacted Daniel Danzer a few days ago and suggested to include this on his geeklist - no reply yet. I hope it's okay to include it here.)

Startnext: Die unglaubliche Robert Redshirt RPG Show

This is a campaign to crowdfund free giveaways for the upcoming, second German Free RPG Day (Gratisrollenspieltag) on Saturday, March 15th 2014. In 2013, LUDUS LEONIS (= Markus Leupold-Löwenthal, an Austrian game designer) had donated a few hundred copies of Einhundertelf Jahre, which is a scenario for his free (creative commons) RPG system NIP'AJIN. Last year, he crowdsourced the money directly from helpers, this time round he uses the Startnext platform.

Die unglaubliche Robert Redshirt RPG Show (The Incredible R. R. RPG Show) is a new NI'AJIN scenario. It will be a free download, self-sufficient (all necessary rules included), and the crowdfunding will pay for free copies on Gratisrollenspieltag. Stretch goals increase the number of copies and pay for extra illustrations.

The RR RPG Show needs a GM and at least two players, who take on the roles of crew members of a popular TV show. Robert Redshirt (an NPC played by the GM) is a Redshirt supposed to die on screen, but he is loved by the audience and needs to be saved everytime around.

Dangerous situations for Robert increase the viewing rate, but the audience would abandon the series if Robert should ever die and leave the cast.

The Show and game have a real time limit: Each episode takes 25 or 45 minutes, plus a commercial break.

Goal: 180 € (on Jan 11 at 460€)
Funding period: Dec 30 - Jan 23

My name is Quinn Murphy. I have done freelance work for Wizards of the Coast, Kobold Quarterly, Margaret Weiss Productions, and more. I've been a blogger specializing in game content for over five years as well. I ran the site At-Will and have moved on to run Thoughtcrime.

I'm still freelancing, but I want to pursue a mission I have of building games with more diverse content and more diverse audiences in mind. I want to build games like Five Fires,

In Five Fires, you play members of a hiphop crew of MCS, graffiti writers, breakers, and DJs. You deal with problems of your life, and use art to cope with your stress. When your art gets out into the world, you get a chance to make it big. You can increase your status or wealth, or maybe change the community around you.

Five Fires has just seen alpha-testing at Metatopia, and I'm working on the alpha docs now. If you back me on Patreon, you'll have access this before anyone else. In addition, you'll have access to any tabletop project I'm working on before anyone else. Five Fires is in my sites now, but it won't be long before I'm working on an Afrocentric fantasy game, or building a game about Double Dragon.

I hope you'll join me on my adventures!

Patreon: Dyson Logos is creating Maps & Adventures for OSR RPGs
Sweet old-school adventure maps!

Quote:
I love drawing old school pen-and-paper dungeon and fantasy adventure maps. I also love making adventures with them, but I draw a lot more maps than I make adventures. But drawing these maps doesn't pay the bills around the house... and winter is arriving in a cold and brutal fashion here in Canada, and I gotta heat this place where I draw maps.

Patronage and Releases
This is your chance to get involved in my mapping. You sponsor my map drawing, and I can afford to keep drawing maps! I post 1-2 maps a week to the Dodecahedron, and throw in an adventure every few months.
You will only be paying for my own original maps and adventures - not for the other posts I put up on the blog (such as Kevin Campbell's excellent maps, or my various bloggings about the games I've played, new character classes, house rules, random tables and so on). I will maintain my current rate of map posting (minimum of 1 map per week, maximum of 2). I will attempt to put up one adventure a month, but I honestly expect it will only be six adventures a year, roughly.
I will not be posting more than 2 maps a week and 1 adventure a month as "Content" according to the Patreon model. This makes it so there is a rough maximum of 10 maps and adventures per month. If I somehow start producing more content than that, I will still release it, but won't list it as "content" according to Patreon, so you won't be charged for my exuberant indulgences in cartographic awesomeness.
Yes, this means you'll likely be backing me for most adventures twice - I typically write an adventure based on a map I've already posted. But an adventure takes a lot more work than a map, so I don't feel guilty about this in the least.

The Content is Free
Since my maps show up on my blog (which is free to read and for personal use), you don't need to back me to get access to the maps. That said, it also means you don't need to stick to any of the funding levels shown below. You can back me for 5 cents per map if you like and you'll still have my eternal thanks. Okay, those thanks won't appear on the blog with your name attached to them, but you will still know that I'm thanking you. There is no guilt here. I produce maps, you enjoy maps. You can keep on enjoying them and I'll probably keep producing them regardless of whether or not you patronize my work. Patronage exists as a way for you to say thanks with financial assistance, which in turn makes it easier for me to continue to create.

Patreon: Mark Diaz Truman is creating The Fate Codex
Adventures, Essays, Fiction and more for Fate Roleplaying

Quote:
The Fate Codex is a mostly-monthly e-zine featuring Quick Start Adventures and more for the Fate roleplaying system.

(...) After taking on that initial work for Fate, I sought out another couple of projects that are still ongoing: Do: Fate of the Flying Temple (based on Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple by Daniel Solis) and Wicked Fate (based on Wicked Fantasy by John Wick). Both of these projects have prompted me to dig really deeply into the Fate Core mechanics, thinking about new ways to make the game fun at the table. I'm loving working with Fate, and I'm honored to get to play with such well-developed tools.

Good Ideas Everywhere
And yet... not all my ideas are a good fit for the two projects currently on my plate. It turns out that making Fate games is a lot like working in a woodshed. At the end of the day, you've got a couple of pieces that you were sure would fit with that table you've been working on for months, but it turns out they might be their own things!

And I know that there are a lot of really high quality bits of Fate goodness that are scattered across the web that also might be useful, if sometimes difficult to find. If you've spent any time on the Fate Core Google Community, you know that people are regularly looking for resources to make their games awesome, and we don't always have good places to send them. There isn't a single place to get short adventures, for example, or find "ready made" NPCs attached to a setting.

The Fate Codex
To collect all this awesome, I'm launching The Fate Codex, a mostly-monthly e-zine that will provide Fate gamers with a regular place to turn to for new resources, awesome tips, and brand new crunchy systems. I envision The Fate Codex to be the go-to place for new and old Fate gamers alike, with ideas that are easy to pick up and play and inspiring enough to intrigue old hands.

maps of the imagination
Quote:
Hi,

My name is Tony Dowler, and I make maps.

What am I making?

You can expect maps and drawings of strange worlds and places inspired by games, science fiction, and fantasy. My goal isn’t just to make some nice maps, but to create some unique artworks that just wouldn’t exist without your support. You can good idea of my artwork from my Web site. hope to present a new piece of completed art about every 6 weeks, but my eventual goal is to finish one a month.

These will be moderate-sized pieces, typically between 11"x17" and 24"x36", some color, some black and white. I can’t promise that you’ll like everything I create, but I can guarantee I won’t ask for your support for any artwork I don’t think is among the best I can produce. You also always have the option of cancelling your pledge.

At some point, I’ll have enough artwork for a show. When we get there, I’ll arrange for a space and throw a party. Naturally, you’ll all be invited!

What can I give back to my patrons?

I’ve got some nice things planned for my patrons. If you’re contributing $5 or more, I’ll send you a numbered postcard based on each piece you help support. The postcards are printed using archival inks and paper and are collectable prints in their own right. At the $25 level you’ll get something tangible related to each piece of art you support. It might be a small print, button, card, or something else entirely. At the $60 level I’ll also send you a small original drawing with your other perks.

Why am I doing this?

I work full time running my own business and do my drawing and painting in the early mornings. Your patronage will help me spend more time on creating interesting art and give me an easy way to share it with you.

Patreon: Pete Figtree is creating Teacher Guides and Aids for Indie Games
Loading the Dice for Meaningful Lessons

Quote:
I'm Pete, a teacher who blogs and podcasts about games and learning from the Ruthless Diastema Blogcast, a proud member of the Geeky and Genki Network.

This whole online venture was borne out of my desire to celebrate the rigor and reflection that games encourage in education, especially indie roleplaying games and story games. The games that I champion share many of the same learning objectives as the standards I am charged to teach, so I have so much fun using them in my courses. Life is good!

I want other teachers to see how wonderful these games are as well, so I am passionate about making more and more guides and associated aids for them. I want them to look nice and offer valuable advice and suggestions to gamer teachers and non-gamers alike.

All of the individual guides will be free, of course. Copy, copy, copy, copy, copy...distribute!

My dream is to eventually see many of these guides compiled into one book that I can use for workshops and panels and professional development events.

Games teach! Let me show you some examples.
(...)
But, back to the point. I have a HUGE list of ideas for teacher guides that I want to see on other teacher's desks.

I probably will not post more than one guide or aid per month (and sometimes fewer), but if I do ever get muse-bashed and busy, please feel free to limit your maximum monthly pledge. Most importantly, don't think for one second that ANY level of patronage is not super appreciated.

Thanks so much for considering supporting my mission.

Patreon: Evil Hat Productions is creating Adventures and Worlds for Fate
Evil Hat believes passion makes the best games.
Quote:
One thing we've heard in the past year from fans of Fate is that they'd like to see more adventures and campaign-starters. We get it! Not everyone has time to build a world and plan an adventure as their first steps—they want to hit the ground running, with something that's solid and vetted by official-seeming folks like us.

The challenge for us there is that we haven't seen a lot of drive for folks to buy adventure content when we've made it available in the past. We want to pay our writers, editors, and artists a fair wage on their work, so we've got to make sure that when we publish adventures, we've got the budget to do that.

That's where you come in.

Our plan is to create a series of adventures for Fate throughout the year. Most will be self-contained, though as time goes on we might come back to earlier ones and do a "second act" adventure for the big hits. Our word-count target per adventure is about 10,000 words (30-40 pages in our 6x9 format seen in the Fate Core line). If things go really well and we can get up to speed we'd like to release these at least one every other month, if not monthly, though we figure it'll take us some time to get started. When we publish them, we'll make them available Pay What You Want. To support that effort, we need a core group of folks who have put their faith in us to build the budget here on Patreon.

We know when you back a Patreon campaign you're making a big, bold statement that you're a big, bold fan of Fate and of Evil Hat. We're big, bold fans of you, too! And we'll do whatever we can to make these adventures worthy of your support. Thanks!

How Will This Work?

Patreon is service where the payment you pledge to make gets processed monthly following a month where a project you back provides you with a "content update" — so you won't get charged for anything until we produce some results for you.

We won't ever release more than one thing for this project in a month, but please feel free to cap your monthly contribution just in case!

What Stuff Might We See?

We already have a leg up here as of the launch of this campaign: writing and editing is already complete on Venture City Stories, an adventure and setting by Brian Engard with a cyberpunk feel where the "cyber" is swapped out for superpowers (call it superpunk if you like!). Early-bird patrons will help us bring that to completion, and we'll release the edited draft of the text to backers when we hit our $800 milestone while we continue to work on art and layout.

Venture City Stories is a sure thing. Here are some other possibilities which have been pitched to us if the campaign takes off. Your support means these become a reality!

Patreon: Sixgun is creating role-playing articles for your game sessions
High-quality, low-prep ideas for your favorite games

Quote:
Hi! I'm Matt Snyder, publisher of Sixgun, this new role-playing publication that brings you six top-notch articles for your game sessions.

What is Sixgun?

Sixgun is a new RPG zine. Each issue has a common theme with six cool feature articles, including new mechanics, scenarios, settings, game hacks, and even mini-games. These are useful, interesting ideas built for play with your group.

Sixgun supports all kinds of RPGs, from traditional to indie games and more. Your support can even help pick which favorite games it features.

How you can help!
I need your support to make this happen. With each issues, I'll bring together six creators along with artists to create an exciting RPG zine you'll love. Those creators and artists deserve payment for their awesome ideas. That's where you come in.

Your pledges happen every time Sixgun releases. It won't be monthly, and you'll only pay up when an issue releases. Your support will help future issues happen, hopefully 2-3 times annually.

What format is this in?
Sixgun will kick off with a PDF edition that will release to patrons first, then made available for free to everyone else. It'll be a nicely designed edition suitable for printing, tablets, and ereaders.

What about print?
Once the first issue is complete, a Sixgun print edition will be available for a small fee via Print On Demand editions at http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/.

Can I share Sixgun?
Please do! You can share the PDF and web link freely, but you can't charge people for it.

When you share, please ask your friends to support Sixgun via Patreon or a direct one-time Paypal donation to. Sixgun won't last if we can't get enough funding to keep doing this.

What's your story?
I'm Matt Snyder. I'm an indie RPG publisher of several games over at StoriesYouPlay.com, including Dust Devils, Nine Worlds, 44: A Game of Automatic Fear, and The Ladykillers. Also, several few years ago I released the short-lived Daedalus indie RPG zine.

Hi! I'm a multidisciplinary games, graphics and object designer. I've been designing, writing and self-publishing tabletop roleplaying games since 2006, and it's really great! I've also developed and exhibited conceptual designed objects, created and hand-crafted board games about food and how we eat, and made weird stuff like artist books about memory and bendy desk tentacles. You can see my work at my website here.

But I want to do more!

The Basics

I'm always juggling a bunch of ideas in various stages of execution, and my backburner is awfully full. That's where you come in - with your support, I can take the time to focus on my smaller, weirder ideas, find out if they have potential or not, and bring them into the world for everyone to enjoy.

And it's not just games. I'm a product/object/3D designer as well, and have some projects in that space I'd like to execute as well.

So, this whole Patreon thing is an experiment for both of us! I don't have specific end products to promise you, just the idea that, with your support, I will be able to finish more things, and you will get privileged access to those things in whatever manner best suits the project.

The Details

I mentally divide my work in "big stuff" and "little stuff". Big stuff is like my games carry. a game about war. and Annalise - fully produced books containing games that reward your creative investment in them over time, sold at appropriate margins to pay for themselves and continue funding my imprint. Little stuff is like my microgames series and Haunted - small ideas, artfully packaged and produced at as low a cost as I can afford to get them into people hands.

All patrons get an invite to a private Google+ community where I'll be sharing works-in-progress, asking for feedback and generally throwing out all my weird little ideas for comment. If you choose to participate in that, it means you'll probably end up influencing what I do actually bring to completion, which is an exciting thing for me!

Supporters at the "little stuff" level get my little projects as the reward. If I do another microgame, you get a copy! That kind of thing.

Supporters at the "big stuff" level get some kind of exclusive content, early access, discounts on the final product (including free digital versions), or other bennie. I don't want to promise the thing itself, because I could be producing pieces at all kinds of price points, but you will get something special. And, of course, you get the "little stuff" rewards as well.

What To Expect

Some of the little ideas I currently have include:

Supplementary material for my existing games (like more Guided Play Scenarios for Annalise)

Microgame ideas (like a board-based fiction game about revolution)

Ideas for more art/graphic design projects, like custom decks of cards, some shirt designs, stuff like that

And some big ideas:

A two-player game where you play the forces of good and evil at the climax of their eternal struggle

A long-form fiction game where you play circus folk on their journey through turn-of-the-20th-century America

A design for a wooden wine rack that flatpacks for shipping and fits in small horizontal spaces

I don't expect to realistically be releasing stuff more frequently than once a month, maybe twice at most (like a big thing and a small thing). But we'll see how it goes! I expect to adjust how this whole thing works once we have a chance to...see how it's working.

I hope you'll join me in this new journey!

Thank You So Much!
