"Published in 1984, this is the first edition of the hugely popular German RPG, Das Schwarze Auge (The Black Eye).

It was translated into Dutch (Het Oog des Meesters), French (L'Œil Noir) and Italian (Uno sguardo nel buio). The English translation was released in November 2016.

The Basic Rules were followed in 1985 by Advanced Rules. Although an independent production, it follows the pattern of D&D, with character attributes, character classes, combat, initiative and magic.

The third edition (1993) was used, with a few limitations, to power the three Realms of Arkania computer games - Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny (1992), Realms of Arkania: Star Trail, and Realms of Arkania: Shadows over Riva
