You will first create a Palace, a huge generation ship that is home to tens of thousands of people. You'll decide on it's traditions, social and political arrangements, allies and enemies. Most importantly, you'll determine the Palace's needs and special resources.
Then you'll each create a spook, one of the agents who are trained in the arts of memory manipulation. Together, your spook characters will work for your home Palace, taking on missions that are necessary for the Palace to survive and prosper.
Each session of play, you'll take turns creating missions. The person who creates the mission is responsible for narrating the opposition, so their spook will not be included. The rest of you will roleplay your spooks as they investigate the situation, make a plan to resolve it and then carry the plan out.
Sometimes, for a bit of variety, you will play other types of story – maybe the spooks take some time off, or maybe they are targeted by enemy spooks themselves.
Spooks play a dangerous game, because manipulating someone else's memories opens you to counterattack. When you come up against capable foes, your spook character may end up having his memories deleted, weakened or totally rewritten.
In most roleplaying games, each player pretty much has total control over their own character's thoughts and internal states. In Fade however, your spook can lose his authentic memories and have them completely replaced with artificial ones as the game goes on. Be prepared.
