From publisher blurb:

Translation :

COPS offers you a trip to the near future, 2030s' California. Fresh rookie from the Police Academy, daddy's rich boy, former Fed or vet from the police or the army, it is now up to you to fight crime in all its forms in the heart of the City of Angels, joining the C.O.P.S. - Central Organization for Public Security, an elite unit within a hapless LAPD.

We are a mere three decades from this game's setting, but the whole world has changed terribly - nuclear confrontation, civil wars, famines, some countries have even gone "privatized" by powerful consortia. America doesn't fare much better, with a rise of the Puritans and the Conservatives, constantly spurning the "Babylon" of modern times - ie California. Tired of abuse and serving as stress relief, the Bear State decides to declare its independence in 2026, quickly followed by Hawaii and Nevada. Your mission? Nothing more than to ensure the safety of the new sovereign state, already plagued by pollution, overpopulation and corruption, while each citizen anxiously prepares for the Big One, the earthquake that will engulf the entire region... If man walked on Mars and if they are going to colonize the seabed, the land is now no more than a large gaping wound.

In the line of Berlin XVIII, already by Team Siroz, COPS will lead you straight into the grim daily routine of Central Police Station in Downtown LA, with a lot of investigations, administrative nasties, service wars, corrupt officers and underpaid heroes, all within a unit which (in principle) overrules any authority of the County of Los Angeles - and boasts the third highest fatality rate within police. But if the characters are all called to wear the same uniform, the game stills offers many different careers: COPS comprises 200 cops from all walks of life, which should be as adept at Colt Afrikaneer as with a test tube, so as to "Serve and Protect" best the Californian taxpayers.

The game system is intended to be most fluid and faithful to the universe: roll as many D10 as your attribute (between 1 and 5), aiming to get dice equal to or greater to your skill (you'll understand the higher a skill number is, the less the character is good), so as to gather between 1 and 5 successes depending on the endeavor's difficulty. Initiative does not leave anything to chance: each player decides when it occurs, but being faster means a penalty, and vice versa. It should be noted that this system is intended to remain murderous: in spiteof protections and armor, hit points drop at high speed: the police need cautious and reasonable COPS, no hotheads who will end quickly with a posthumous medal...
