Cretan Chronicles is a trilogy of gamebooks written by John Butterfield, David Honigmann and Philip Parker, and illustrated by Dan Woods. They were published by Puffin between 1985 and 1986 under the Adventure Gamebooks banner.
Each book is set in the mythological world of Ancient Greece, where the reader controls Altheus, brother of the legendary hero Theseus.
The Cretan Chronicles also use a unique mechanism known as "Taking a Hint". Whenever the section number is in italics, he may attempt to perform an action not mentioned in the text of the current section. He adds 20 to the section number to see if he was successful (a special action is performed) or not (is punished with loss of stats).
