From the introduction:

A Pleasant Place is a roleplaying game about deeply flawed people trying to survive and grow a colony on an alien planet, under the authority of an artificial intelligence.

The seed ship landed safely, but the immigrants emerged from their stasis…changed. They are more impulsive and antisocial, side effects of cryogenic sleep that the colonists call brainfreeze. It is up to you to fight against or embrace your iniquitous, brainfrozen urges. The seed ship will guide your actions to the benefit of society, but under these unforeseen circumstances, the AI is not always perfect.
