From the introduction:
You’re on the first Wilderness Scout trip of the season, and it’s off to a great start. You’re the tent leader, and you’ve invited some of your bunkmates to join you at the firepit after lights out- after the babies are asleep (thankfully you grew three inches last year, and no longer are stuck with the little kids!).
When you get to the fire, you see that the others beat you out there- you smile, because as The Leader, you don’t need to rush. They’ll always wait for you.
You take out your invitation to the Scouting trip, and point out the weird writing around the edge. Yes, this is what it looked like when your Mom opened the envelope. You have no idea what it means, but you wanted to share it with the others. Your Mom just thought it was a part of the design, and refused to listen when you read it aloud. She said you’d been reading too many scary books. Maybe your fellow Scouts can help figure out the meaning!
