Breakout Day was designed as a large-scale LARP for the Willington (NZ) Kapcon Convention 2001. The LARP is intended to handle thirty-six players in a standard game, and even more are possible using accessory characters. A session is intended to last for about three hours. The game is intended to be "played straight" but features obvious deadpan humor and increasingly bizarre circumstances.
Designed and played in 2001, the game rules documents were formally published on their web site by the convention in 2007.
