Text taken from the game's introduction
Everybody wants something that someone else controls.
Salome wants to kiss the lips of John the Baptist, locked away by her stepfather Herod. Herod wants to watch his stepdaughter dance, but her mother forbids it. And John wants the world to submit to his messiah, or kneel in damnation.
In the end, everybody gets what they want - and everybody pays the price. Salome dances and is rewarded with the head of John the Baptist, whose dead lips she kisses, whose death brings the judgment of an angry god upon the house of Herod.
Everybody wants something. How far would you go to get it? And how far will the world change to make your wishes come true?
Salome is a generic RPG focusing on passionate characters trying to reach their goals. A character's attributes are his Passion, used to affect other people, and his will, used to resist the Passion of others. Every character has a Drive, which is the thing the character wants most in the world. There is also "The One", a thing obstructing or controlling access to the target of the drive, and "The Three", which are three main tactics of a character to reach his goal.
Passion and Will are measured in the die types that are used for opposed rolls. The die type for the Will attribute is reduced each time a roll is lost. When it drops below d4, the Drive is inverted, so instead of longing for his beloved one, the character may try to kill her if he cannot get her to love him.
The goal of the game is to create a dramatic story.
