The year is 2250, two centuries after humans scrambled for survival in Earth's dying days. Humanity effectively split into three in an effort to survive. Some fled to Mars and Venus, throwing themselves onto the mercy of private companies owning those planets. Other held up in giant domed bastions of Earth, of which only dread Acheron still stands. Most, though, took refuge in the digital realm. The framework already stood, internet access didn't require any special skills or resources and the promise of a virtual life was alluring.
Haven was built on a patchwork of patched-together MMO's, the internet, and private company relays. It could have been a fresh start for humanity, a world without artificial scarcity and capitalism. The people who funded its digital programming and physical servers though, wanted to remain rich and powerful. As a result, Haven sees the same class hierarchies and warfare the dying Earth did. To make matters worse, the code on which Haven depends is glitching after two centuries of continuous runtime.
You are a Breaker, rebelling against the governing capitalist system. The ruling elite wants to destroy you for your rebellion. The Code, the engine which built your reality, seeks to destroy you. For you, it's liberty or death.
