Description Edit | History

Editor, Illustrator, Writer

Richard Van Ingram wrote the background story for Quintessential Mercy Studio's First Edition of "Rapture; The Second Coming" in 1994-95 while a PhD Candidate, Philosophy, in Athens, GA at the University of Georgia. He was not paid. Material and ideas are still used in later editions and advertisements, usually uncredited.

In 1995, Mind Ventures Games hired him to edit, re-write, and provide some illustrations for the Second Edition of "Don't Look Back; Terror is Never Far Behind." His second project for Mind Ventures was an edit and re-write of the First Edition of "Giant Psychic Insects from Outer Space" supplement for "Don't Look Back." He was paid for his efforts and enjoyed the creative process.

Some of his illustrations and writings were also published in gaming zines; he also was art director and writer for "THE LUMINARY" magazine, 1993-95.

Ingram's RPG specializations are horror, humor, and satire, or some mixture of the three.

Over the years from 1996-2008, he worked with Fred Noble on what became Pangenre RPG System, playtesting and arguing in favor of character/story heavy--dice/math light approaches to gaming; the Pangenre System in its present incarnation reflects little of his approach. However, he did coin the term "pangenre."

Ingram has worked on his own systems, privately played among friends over the years that are narrative/character based and math light or math non-existent. His favorite genres have been horror (in the 1980s, he invented the approach of using his home town where the players portrayed themselves -- or one another -- called "Dahlonega Horror") and Western Horror set in Wild West Texas involving a quirky, unpredictable set of multiple magic systems, gun play, intrigue, Lovecraftian horror, all heavily influenced by John Findley's "Tex Arcana" comix from Heavy Metal Magazine in the 1980s.

Presently, Ingram is the owner/operator/creator at Loser Comix Group making underground comix, left-wing political art and editorial comix, humor, horror, satire, pin-ups, and weird combinations of all the aforementioned. Titles include: LOSER COMIX; ADDISON & STEELE; and HAWT! He also makes comic pamphlets that look like Jack T. Chick comics on subjects ranging from DIY ethics, dystopian horror, to anti-right-wing politics.

In addition, Ingram makes fine art and low-brow art for sale while teaching philosophy for actual money.
