I'm studying molecular biology at a university of applied science in Germany. I'd consider myself a hobby artist, I've always liked drawing and painting as long as I can remember. People ask me why I went into biology instead of art ...
Art is a great thing in and of itself, but to make a living off it you'd have to be extremely good. I'm not. I might get there one day, but right now I'm not. So I go where the money is, which means that I'll be able to comfortably practice art as a hobby (if you earn a good chunk of money you can afford a cintiq without being a professional ^__^).
Art-wise, I focus mostly on digital art, since it's less messy (I don't usually have a lot of time to clean up, much less a lot of space to really set things up the traditional way), but I do like traditional painting and drawing nevertheless.
I also do quite a bit of sewing and other artisan craft since I'm more or less active (if yet a beginner) in the medieval re-enactment scene.
Other than that ... I like just about all sub-genres of metal (with melodic death being my favorite) as well as medieval music and irish folk, I'm also learning to play bagpipes, because they're damn awesome.
