Greetings from New Zealand... you know, those two little islands where they filmed Lord of the Rings? Yeah, there.
My name's Max, I'm 23 years old and I'm a Electrical Engineering graduate now working towards a PhD in nanotechnology at Canterbury University in earthquake-stricken Christchurch. What that entails at the moment is mainly burning things with lasers and trying to make tiny, transparent transistors to drive the next generation of flat-screen TVs.
To be honest, my interest in drawing is rather odd considering how much of an objective, logic driven science geek I am. I do take this viewpoint a lot and apply it to art though. I don't like pretension in art- if it has to be explained to me why a picture or a piece of prose is to be considered profound, then Occam's razor says that it isn't.
I appreciate effort, skilled workmanship and technical proficiency in artwork.
I consider myself an approachable person and I'm more than happy to help anyone who's willing to listen to me, which has gained me somewhat of a reputation as a good critic. I don't know everything but I am honest. If you'd like my opinion on a piece of artwork and maybe a suggestion or two, I'm always ready to oblige.
In my own art style, I aim for hyper-realism, when I can take a fictitious, fantastical character and make them appear real on a page. I'm a long way off it yet, but I'm clawing my way up slowly.
