I am 40 years old, married with two little children. Here are my personal interests and jobs:
RPGS: I started at 9yo with the Dungeons & Dragons 1983's "red box" by Frank Mentzer, which has long been the only D&D set translated in italian. I started writing content at 13yo, authoring some Dungeons & Dragon house rules, campaigns and modules for some gaming associations who were active in Rome, Italy; between 1991 and 1999 I mostly opted out from D&D and switched to MERP, White Wolf / World of Darkness, Cyberpunk 2020 and Rolemaster, settling with them for a while although occasionally playing D&D / AD&D as well. I've always had a strong preference for story-driven campaigns and brilliant game mechanics, which I managed to obtain by house-ruling these rule sets according to my needs. Around 1994 I also started working on my own RPG system (www.myst.it), try to mix up a strong narrative approach with a solid simulationist ruleset. Between 1999 and 2005 I was an avid reader of The Forge community and indie-rpgs.com forums: during these years I played a lot of narrative games and threw myself into the Threefold Model / GNS Theory / Big Model debates. These theories, in my humble opinion, were built upon great premises but were unable to properly address some specific in-game issues, such as the task-resolution aspects. Within the next years I did my best to find better answers and incorporate them into my works: most of these mechanics became part of the Myst ruleset, yet some of them simply couldn't fit in an hybrid game system like it. Eventually, I realized that I had to plant these seeds to a whole different jar... and that's how I started thinking about EVENT.
BOARDGAMES: I have started playing Board Games and RPGs since I was nine and I became a passionate player and serial buyer since then: as of today I collected more than 120 games (check out my whole collection at the BoardGameGeek link below), most of which I still eagerly play with my fiends, family & kids.
VIDEOGAMES: I started playing with a Commodore VIC-20 and never stopped, steadily going through Point-and-Click Adventures, Third-Person Shooters, Simulation Games, RTS, MMORPGs, MOBAs and FPS (my long-term Steam account is in the links below). I was a semi-professional Starcraft, Counter-Strike, DAOC and Guild Wars player back in the day, earning a decent amount of awards and achievements in most Italian and EU tournaments. As of today, I mostly play with my kids: nonetheless, sooner or later I'll definitely want to use my programming skills to develop some indie game.
BUSINESS: I'm currently working as a Chief Information Officer & ICT Operations Manager for a service-based IT & Tech company holding in Italy. I'm the one in charge of overseeing the IT Operations, including - yet not limiting to - designing, creating and delivering service-oriented Hardware, Software, Web, Mobile and Digital Innovation solutions (you can see my resumee, projects, courses, certifications and awards in the LinkedIn profile). I'm passionate about Digital Innovation topics, technology articles, frameworks and development patterns. Wherever I work, I always end up promoting and supporting modern approaches and methodologies based on the Agile Framework. In the last few years I started to write manuals, books, publications and essays on Web Development, Data Security and ICT Project Management topics: I published three books and a video course with Packt Publishing. I'm also the Content Manager of www.ryadel.com, a IT & Tech blog whih I co-founded in 2014. I'm also fairly active on GitHub, StackOverflow and Microsoft MVP communities.
