"Alan Emrich is an American game designer, teacher and author who is known as the designer of computer games, the founder of Victory Point Games, the co-designer of the popular wargame Totaler Krieg!, and a lecturer in game design and project management. In 1977, he and John Meyers co-founded the OrcCon game convention in Los Angeles. He later helped start the Gateway and Gamex conventions, also in Los Angeles. He was the first vice president of the Game Manufacturers Association. In the 1980s, he also founded the game company Diverse Talents Incorporated which imported and exported games and published magazines such as Fire & Movement. During the 1990s, he was the first strategy game editor and later the first online editor for Computer Gaming World magazine.

In 2001, he received the Blomgren/Hamilton Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement from ConsimWorld.com.
