Fate is a family of role-playing games based on an original game written by Fred Hicks and Rob Donoghue and published in 2003, and its several successors.
There have been four basic Fate systems.
All of these versions are available on this downloads page. They are described in some detail on on this diagram from Evil Hat's website.
In 2020, Evil Hat released Fate Condensed, which is still considered Fate Core. From the back cover: "Fate Condensed is a compact, stand-alone version of the Fate Core System streamlined for clarity and ease of reference."
Common features in all Fate family games are...
- the use of four Fudge dice for action resolution
- the use of Aspects, narrative tags that describe elements of characters, scenes, objects, and everything else in the game world
