The small channel, connecting two rivers, lies tranquil embedded in the landscape. Long grass and fruit bearing trees grow on its sandy flanks. A small riverboat slowly makes its way along this artificial waterway. Originally built for smaller sailing ships and boats towed by ox or horse teams it is barely deep enough for the steamship. Only its very center is deep enough for the small freight which, fully loaded, lies deep in the water. The plume of its coal powered steam engine gives away its presence far and wide.
