Manuel du Meneur de Jeu ("Playmaker Manual") presents the basic mechanics of Advanced Bernard & Jean with hints on running a game and a campaign. It was the original rulebook and is augmented (not supplanted) by the later Manuel du Gendarme et du Voleur.
The rules are strongly skewed to create scenes of comic humor based on slapstick behavior and untenable situations. The core opposed effort resolution process, for example, favors indifferent results. Combat is not particularly lethal, but does result in an unusually high number of impacts to embarrassing body parts. Adventures are constructed to make life difficult for the characters--they can easily resolve situations only if they are willing to violate The Penal Code (which they cannot do).
The "Booklet" and the "eBook" versions are identical except for the pagination--the "Booklet" version is paginated for double-sided print and fold; the "eBook" version is paginated in order for on-screen reading. The electronic version contents are identical to the 1995 print version.
