From the introduction:
In Wreck Age, players will control one or more Characters, one of which they will chose to represent their Player Character. Player Characters are the embodiment of the players in the game. They are capable of heroic feats, and are the leaders of the players’ crew, or adventuring group. Crews consist of the player’s Character’s traveling companions, compatriots, followers, or even their henchmen. In the Narrative RPG form of Wreck Age, and in some encounters, there may be Characters in play that are not directly controlled by the players, but rather by the encounter itself or the Narrator. These Characters will be referred to as Narrator-Controlled Characters.
User summary:
Note the game presents a blended system of tabletop miniatures wargame and narrative role-playing. Characters are defined but rarely will operate entirely alone; players are much more likely to control their characters and a variety of hirelings.
