Tortured Earth is a class-less, level-less role playing game designed to enable characters to shift from one story setting to another without loss of skills or abilities. The Game Guide provides new players with GM and Player information, as well as a Creature Manual. The system integrates science fiction, fantasy, and horror scenarios into a seamless mechanic. GMs wishing to experiment with story settings other than fantasy, or wish to integrate elements of other genre into their existing settings, may do so without overpowering - or underpowering - the introduced elements. Creatures are designed using a scaling system based on the total skill points of the character group. This method strips away the need for creature encounters based on levels and insures the group always encounters creatures on par with their current abilities. GMs award Skill Points based on story accomplishments, rather than hack-and-slash advancement. Players accomplishing story objectives receive Skill Points. Players wishing to cause mass mayhem may certainly do so, though do not receive points if it does not advance the story forward.
