From the back cover of the Bloody Tongue hardcover edition:
“Men advised one another to see Nyarlathotep, and shuddered. And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished, for the small hours were rent with the screams of nightmare.” H.P. Lovecraft, 1920
“What kind of weapons do Bloody Tongue cultists use?”
“What does the Liver Ivonis contain?”
“What hospitals are there in Mombasa?”
“How do you organize a raid on Gray Dragon Island?”
“What do I do if everybody dies???”
Ever since its release in 1984, ''Masks of Nyarlathotep'' has been considered one of the finest supplements for Call of Cthulhu, a roleplaying classic. Countless players have dared to thwart the machinations of Nyarlathotep and plumb the mysteries of the Carlyle expedition. Keeping this globe-trotting campaign is unfortunately rather a challenge, with scores of NPCs, dozens of locations, hordes of cultists, and at least one very angry Outer God. Needless to say, even the best Keeper could use a little help.
That is where the Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion comes in. Drawing on the wisdom and experience of the members of Yog-Sothoth.com, the premiere site for Lovecraftian role-playing, the Companion gathers together tips and advice for Keepers wishing to run Masks of Nyarlathotep. Within these pages are detailed nearly every imaginable facet of the campaign, from starting play to ending things with a bang, explaining, exploring, and expanding the classic work. There is something for everyone, from novice game masters to Grognardian disciples of Cthulhu.
The
Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion contains:
- A History of the Campaign.
- Keeper’s Tips for organizing and running the campaign.
- Tips on how to introduce, use, and kill Jackson Elias.
- Guides to New York, London, Cairo, Kenya, Australia’s Pilbara Coast, Shanghai AND Hong Kong.
- Articles describing and expanding on all of the campaigns tomes and artifacts.
- 4 new scenarios and numerous encounters that can be inserted into the campaign.
- Over two-dozen pre-generated characters plus tips on building better investigators.
Now you too can challenge (or challenge again) your players with this award-winning campaign, now with the power of the Companion at your side!
Original 2010 announcement on Yog-Sothoth.com:
The Complete Masks of Nyarlathotep is not only regarded as one of the best campaigns for Call of Cthulhu, but as one of the best campaigns to have written for gaming ever! To coincide with the 2010 re-release of the classic 1920s set campaign, Chaosium will also publish the Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion, a tome devoted in its entirety to helping a Keeper run all six chapters of Masks of Nyarlathotep. At over 250,000 words in length, the Companion is larger than the campaign itself and has been a three year labour of love for dedicated fans of both Call of Cthulhu and Masks of Nyarlathotep at the website, yog-sothoth.com.
The Companion includes a guide to running each of campaign's six chapters; detailed descriptions of the many tomes and innumerable locations to be found in the campaign; more information about our good friend, Jackson Elias; two extra scenarios set before and during the campaign; adds countless details about the campaign, such as how to handle money, travel, and the replacement of investigators in what is regarded as one of the deadliest of campaigns ever written. To that end, the Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion includes twenty-eight fully written pre-generated investigators all ready to add to the campaign, ranging from a New York Conjurer and a White Russian Folklorist to a French African gun for hire and a German ex-U-boot commander!
