User summary:
APA-L is a weekly amateur press association founded in 1964 and (nearly) continuously published weekly since then. Each weekly issue typically is referred to as a "collation" and includes materials submitted by numerous authors.
APA-L is the club publication of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, a club primarily formed by fans of science fiction and fantasy fiction. Numerous notable authors also have been contributors.
The periodical focuses heavily on fiction and fan activities and generally does not consider roleplaying topics. However, when roleplaying first emerged onto the national stage many of the contributors to APA-L became heavily involved in gaming and for a brief period the periodical included notable roleplaying content. The first collation including mention of "Dungeons & Dragons" was #493 (October 24, 1974). Roleplaying content continued through collation #537 (August 28, 1975). By that time, several influential non-roleplaying contributors successfully had argued that APA-L should focus exclusively on science fiction and fantasy fiction. Thus, roleplaying content was instead diverted to a newly formed APA familiar to most roleplayers today - Alarums & Excursions.
APA-L continues today with weekly collations. Only those collations with roleplaying content (493-537) are enumerated here.
