I know where you live, and I've seen where you sleep. I swear to everything holy that your mothers will CRY when they see what I've done to you.

Description Edit | History

From Steve:

I was introduced to the hobby in 1989 during my sophomore year of HS; at the time I had a thing for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and after talking about it with one of the guys I had class with, he ran a couple of solo games for me, and I was hooked. I developed a core group of friends that I played with, and I'm still in good contact with just about all of them even though I no longer live in the same general vicinity as the rest of them.

I started with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and then moved onto Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (2nd Edition) as there was a little more mass appeal for generic fantasy vice mutant animals from the rest of my group at the time, and then to Rifts. Rifts is what we spent the vast majority of our time playing as HS progressed, and I have fond memories of the mayhem that we created in those various dimensions.

After HS I hit a dry spell as I couldn't really find enough folks to make a good group and thus didn't play again until 2003 when some of my similarly inclined Navy buds decided to get me back into it by dragging my wife along into a D&D 3.X campaign - that actually worked out quite a bit better than I expected, but once she got pregnant that put an end to that pretty well.

In June of 2007 I joined an existing group (that I found through an online post at my FLGS) in running the Savage Tide Adventure Path, which lasted on and off until the beginning of 2010; sadly, I had to stop playing on a routine basis owing to my wife going for her MBA and thus me needing to tend more to the childrens. I had been enjoying 3.X quite a bit up until I actually saw the system starting to strain at the higher levels, and was even more depressed that the system they were switching to was one I had been championing myself for some time: Savage Worlds.
And after a random conversation with my wife it was determined that things had settled back into predictable enough patterns that I could once again begin gaming, and I returned to the IGG at the beginning of 2012 and was looking forward to some old school WEG Star Wars 1E.
That lasted a little more than a month, and the month was mostly spent with me missing sessions. Huzzah!

In March-ish of 2014 I stumbled across another Geek user who was looking to run a Rise of the Runelords Pathfinder campaign, and we kicked things off in April. That switched to testing out D&D 5E with the Starter Set before once again I had to call things quits.

I happened to see a post on Facebook to the Schenectady Wargamers Association in late January about a group looking for another 5E player, and we kicked things off in late January. The group is fantastic (and quite willing to take a chance on "random internet schlub" - aka me) and we are having an awesome time playing what's turning out to be my favorite version of D&D to date.

I'd really like to run a couple of campaigns that don't use any sort of D&D rules, but as the ideas behind them seem to appeal to only me, they're likely to never get off the ground.
