Our motto is "Games that Unleash Your Imagination" because we created Battlelords with the idea that our game will inspire your imagination. We love sci-fi and feel it is under-served by the RPG market. Most RPGs are fantasy related, and those that are sci-fi are often related to some popular TV series or movie. Battlelords give you an entire universe to make your own; a completely original universe that is not tethered to pre-conceived notions.
We rely heavily on our community. Our fans are really a major force in the direction of Battlelords. We decide our production schedule based almost entirely upon what our community wants. We often hear from people who played Battlelords years ago, and just could not get rid of the Battlelords itch.
Our goal is to become synonymous with sci-fi RPGs. When you think fantasy RPGs you think Dungeons and Dragons, when you think horror RPGs you think World of Darkness or Call of Cthulhu. When you think sci-fi RPG you think Battlelords.
Battlelords of the Twenty-Third Century was created by Lawrence Sims, and first published in 1990 by Optimus Design Systems (ODS). When Battlelords got started there was no Internet to speak of, and no print-on-demand. Larry peddled the game at local stores, colleges, and conventions. Along the way others joined in the dream of Battlelords, pitching in whenever and however they could. Everyone involved in Battlelords put in a lot of time and effort, and Battlelords was soon sold all around the world.
In 1999 ODS no longer had the resources to continue production of the Battlelords line. Some of us involved with ODS loved the game too much to let it languish. A lot of hard work was poured into Battlelords, so we had to save it. We formed SSDC, and acquired the rights to Battlelords of the Twenty-Third Century. We knew there where a lot of devoted fans, so that told us there was something about Battlelords that people latched onto. Ever since, our goal has been to expand and improve Battlelords.
