Description Edit | History

Imagine if you will three separate universes. Each composed of countless galaxies, worlds, stars, and suns of their own. Each universe filled with deep histories and tales to tell. One universe is much like our own: populated with human-like creatures, struggling to survive in clashes with one another over resources and ideals. Another dimension populated with unusual, clockwork beings striving together to survive and understand their purpose and place in the universe. Still yet another universe, its roots buried deep into the fabric of magic. Its primary life form is a race of intelligent mystical creatures that understand and command the ways of magic from birth.

Now imagine an Event so unbelievably destructive that the barriers between these three dimensions and slams them together. Imagine an Event that no one of these three races can even begin to understand, and yet threatens all of their very lives. Imagine this as the backdrop for the world into which you inject your characters: a shattered universe of endless potential, possibility and problems – the worlds of Splintered Serenity™!

The first of the three primary worlds of Splintered Serenity™ is Earth, (often referred to as "New Earth", "post-Event Earth", or "Apoc-Earth") home of the genetic super-soldiers known as the Apoc. This is the Earth that is known to us, but set in a far-flung, post-apocalyptic future where our planet has been ravaged by the Event. Earth is also currently the focus of Splintered Serenity, and where the majority of the "action" of the default Campaign happens, however, that does not mean that GM's and Players are limited to this "Apoc-Earth" as the sole home of their adventures: far from it!

The second of these worlds is known as "Ai" (pronounced: Eye) and it is the mystical, magic-based world of the L'na. Ai is a lush, primal world where magic is as basic to life as sunlight is on Earth. Magic is the core energy that makes things go and the world brims with its savage, strange and vibrant energy. Ai is not a planet like Earth, however, it is more of a series of unique, mystical "sites" that are linked via magical borders, curtains and portals. While one of Ai’s sites might be as large as a planet (or even an entire plane of existence), another could be as small as a single-chambered cave! There’s no rhyme or reason on a world forged of pure magic...

The third world is known as the Great Machine: the clockwork and cog-home of the "steampunk" Klik. The Great Machine simply *IS* and always has been: most Klik have no desire or need to discover the boundaries of their world. If asked, the simply state that the Great Machine is "unknowably large". It is a world filled with the noise of never-ending clocks, the pounding of steel pistons, the grating of iron gears, and the hissing of titanic steam jets. Yet, the Great Machine is always in need of raw materials: fuel for its sun-like furnaces and water for its world-spanning engines. As such, the Klik are constantly searching for a new source of these "combustibles and lubricants" and "fluidic reservoirs."

It is within this fantastic and mind-bending triune world that all of the action of Untold occurs and where you and your players can journey! We invite you to come along with us and not only play in our world, but help us create and expand it! If you have a cool idea for a new location, world, creature, race, power, or whatever, post it in our forum! Not only do we want to see it, but if it "passes muster", then YOUR IDEA just might become Official and work its way into the hands of gamers all over the world!
