I'm sorry... how is a game that isn't released yet eligible?

Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition is not yet released!

The final voting will be resolved using a condorcet voting system - specifically the Schulze method. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schulze_method

For those who don't want to read the specifics of the system, users will rank the games in each category from 1 to 10, (with a 0 for no opinion), and, through some mathemagical computations, we will select the winner.
Aldie, this year make it clear if you're using the Schulze method as it is described in the wikipedia page you link to, or the modified(?) method you used last year.
Specifically, how no opinion(0) games are rated. I don't remember what the exact issue was now, but several people thought that voting "no opinion" for a game last year did something different than what it actually did.
How do no opinion votes count? Any no-opinion vote is ranked below all others, or are they actually put in in the middle, or average?

It's specifically on this point in the wikipedia page:
Quote:
keep candidates unranked. When a voter doesn't rank all candidates, then this is interpreted as if this voter (i) strictly prefers all ranked to all unranked candidates, and (ii) is indifferent among all unranked candidates.

Do all ranked outweigh the unranked here, or are you using the same method as last year, which was different?

Nice to see Pax Porfiriana getting some love. Too bad the COIN games were relegated to just the war game category; they are certainly the most innovative and thematic games I've played in years. I do love Robinson Crusoe though its representation is hardly surprising given its current top 20 status.

Most seem from 2012 (Essen or later) or 2013, but indeed I notice Polis: Fight for the Hegemony is listed as published in 2010; that's odd...

---

(As usual, most of the candidate "abstract games" (e.g. Qwixx) aren't abstract strategy games in the sense that abstract gamers themselves use the term and in the sense that the BGG subdomain defines them ("like Chess or Go", i.e. games with no randomness and no hidden information)...)

(The Yahtzee-looking dice game Qwixx isn't even in the BGG "abstract" subdomain at all, but in the "family" subdomain.)

Lots of really good board games, with lots of difficult choices. I ended up ranking some really excellent choices 5th or 6th because there were just that many good games ahead of them.

Exciting to see Empire Engine on the P&P list - thanks to those who nominated us :D

If you haven't played, it prints on two sheets of paper and plays in 20 minutes - what have you got to lose? Except 20 minutes and two sheets of paper of course...

So I guess if I want to vote 'against' a game I played and hated, I have to assign rankings to games I've never played?

I'll just vote positively for the ones I played and liked I think

Yes - just vote positively. You can't hurt a games's overall rankings if you put it last.
