When I retired, I decided to explore the Seven Deadly Sins. Perhaps I shouldn't have started with Sloth. It's been four years and that's as far as I've gotten.

Do you enjoy RPGs set in historical times, with no supernormal powers? If so, what time periods are your favorite? What would be your least favorite?

You can have a complete collection of any one RPG, but you are not allowed to sell the items or give them away. What is it?

Which one rule or aspect of a game you have never played would you most like to try out?

What was the first RPG you ever played, and do you still play it? If not, why not and would you ever play it again?

Do you have any collections of RPGs that are missing one or two items, and are you trying to complete them? What lengths would you go to to finish the collection?

How do you finish off a game the players are enjoying but you are burned and just need to be done with it.

You got a what seems like a great idea for a game setting, but you are already running a game, take prep time away from the current game for developing a setting you may never use, or just try not to think about and let it fade away?

Every time a player mentions out loud what he feared might be a trap, and what it might do, I make a point of pulling out a notepad and writing it down tp try to place such a trap in a future adventure. Dick move or inspired Gming?

How often to do you run the same adventure? Never? Sometimes? Only with a different group of players? Often?

Do you ever give hints about what deadly fate the players have just avoided through their brilliance or dumb luck? If you do, do you think it makes the players appreciate surviving more?

Do you buy RPG systems or supplements for systems you know you'll never play? Why?

How likely are you to try a new RPG system?

How do you go about learning a new RPG? Any tips or tricks?

This thread got me thinking. D&D wasn't easy to learn but I had the benefit of a Mom who helped me with the Red Box, a friend who was super enthusiastic, and the near infinite time of a 4th grader to screw around with reading it for fun.

I'm trying to pick up some other non-D&D related games that are way off the path of what I know (like Fate) and having a hard time wrapping my head around how different it is. I have some ideas, but I'd love to know what's worked for others.

I have recently been trying to pare down my rpg collection to systems that will see use. I find that the more RPG systems and books that I own, the less I actually get round to using them for play (as I struggle to read through them all!).

Is less actually more? What do other rpggeeks think?

I'm not exactly sure how to word this but something along these lines...

Have you ever played a game where you ran up against the limits of the system for the story your group was telling? Could you solve the problem? If so, how? Examples, please.

I'm not exactly sure what I am getting at, but it was prompted by the "burnout" thread. Several posters there mentioned situations where they were running a game but found the system wasn't working for them anymore, not from an enjoyment perspective but from a mechanical perspective (although the two are related). To me, that seems like a different thing than burnout. I have rarely gotten "burned out" in the sense of no ideas, no joy, just want it to go away, but I have at least twice had to end a game because I found that the way the story was going and the way the mechanics were working were not jibing together at all, and I couldn't see any way through to some solution.

so, something in that neighborhood.

Would you be comfortable running a game alongside another GM or have a game run for you by two GMs?

What's the story behind your RPGGeek avatar?

What's the best starter RPG for noobies?

What one song would describe how you run your games?

What's the most exotic world you've played in?

Biggest twist is a game you've played in or run?

Bonus:
RPGs. Games or stories? Just kidding.

A composite question (please feel free to reword):
What role does risk to the characters play in your current game?
On the scale of 'killer GM' to 'everyone's an invincible hero', where are you?
Does it differ based on the system/campaign you are running?

How important is game mastery (a thorough understanding of the rules) in your normal group?

Do you worry about mastering the rules for one-shot games if you play them multiple times?

If the rules allow something you'd rather not have in your campaign, how do you handle it?

How do you handle insistent/demanding players who want to include things (classes, races, equipment, spells, etc) in your game that you don't consider a good fit?

Have you ever served as a playtester for a game that was released? How was the experience?

Do you consider yourself a grognard when it comes to RPGs?

Is grognard the right term for an RPG player who prefers older games or should there be a different term?

How important to you as a player is having a good character sheet?

When it comes to character sheets do you look for an official one or just make your own?

Do you have any derisive terms for GMs (like "screenmonkey")?

Any nicknames for those players who have to compulsively stack and/or sort their dice to make shapes?
